K-State is celebrating Kansas students going global! Two high school students were selected to attend the Global Youth Insitute as delegates representing the Kansas Youth Insitute, an event hosted by the College of Agriculture. The 2024 Global Youth Institute included 174 students from across the world and was hosted in Des Moines, IA, in conjunction with the World Food Prize Foundation's Borlaug Dialogue Conference. The two students were Cherish Galliart, a senior at Lyons High School in Lyons, KS, and Mariah Anstey, a senior at Northern Heights High School in Allen, KS. Both students shared their research on the global food system during the event. Cherish studied Ethiopian Golden Rice and Mariah studied Zoonotic Diseases in Nigeria. Cherish also received a $250 scholarship as a top 10 finalist based on her work! These two were selected to advance to the Global Youth Institute by research experts as well as K-State researchers and professors from a group of 12 high school students who participated in the 2024 Kansas Youth Institute. If you are a high school student interested in the 2025 Kansas Youth Institute, save the date for March 14, and information will be posted with more details.

As we look back on K-State Extension and Engagement Week, we celebrate the essential role Extension plays in the K-State mission as a land-grant university. Extension leads engagement and community outreach across the state. Each of the 105 counties in Kansas contains an Extension office where you can find agents who provide expert information and programming free of charge. Our Extension agents work to bring the knowledge provided by our research to the people of Kansas. We are proud to play a role in the state Extension system and grateful for the work of our Extension agents and specialists. The week's discussions during the Extension annual conference focused on eight key issues: water, childcare, adult leadership, hunger-free Kansas, rural health, higher education access, broadband access and housing.
