Moravian Faculty Spotlight Saturday! Christina Wood, PT, DPT is an adjunct faculty member in the Moravian DPT program. Dr. Wood currently co-teaches DPT 780 Functional Mobility and DPT 875 Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Assistive Technology. She previously co-taught DPT 711 Applications of Neuroscience in Physical Therapy. Dr. Wood earned her bachelor’s degree from DeSales University and her clinical doctorate of physical therapy (DPT) from Widener University. Dr. Wood shares that she decided to become a physical therapist, “to help people reach their full potential. My specialty area is neuro. I decided on neuro as my focus area because I love the complexity of neuro cases and love that I can make a difference in a patient life to maximize their function in order to reach their functional goals.” When asked what drew her to teaching and, specifically, teaching at Moravian, Dr. Wood communicates, “I want to support the next generation of therapists! [I want to] share my physical therapy knowledge to assist with teaching new therapists best practices. Moravian has an outstanding program and I wanted to support their DPT program!” Dr. Wood says that her favorite thing about Moravian DPT students is “their passion and dedication to learning best practices. Their drive for learning and overall excellence is evident! It is an honor to be a part of their DPT education journey.” Dr. Wood’s advice to PT students entering DPT school is to “be eager and passionate about learning!” Further, Dr. Wood encourages recent DPT graduates “to always be a lifelong learner. Seek out learning opportunities to better serve your patients and maximize outcomes.” Dr. Wood—we are so appreciative of your passion and enthusiasm for physical therapy and moving our field forward. We are lucky to have you!

Congratulations to Moravian University DPT students Megan McGloin, SPT and Heather Alich, SPT who recently presented as part of the Rapid Insights: Tactical Physical Therapy Journal Club. Megan and Heather, along with their faculty research advisor Dr. Colin Tomes, critically reviewed a recently published article on relationships between body mass, BMI, fat-free mass and other characteristics in tactical athletes. Megan and Heather reviewed relevant published research and delivered a written practitioner summary of the evidence in addition to the live webinar presentation. Both Megan and Heather are students in Moravian's DPT Class of 2024. Congratulations Megan and Heather on doing an outstanding job navigating a very challenging topic! Special thanks to Dr. Colin Tomes for mentoring Megan and Heather on this work. Dr. Tomes's primary research agenda focuses on tactical personnel, including military, police, and firefighters. Moravian DPT is incredibly proud of you, Matthew Riggins, SPT!!!
Meet one of our student interns, Matt Riggins! While in his final clinical rotation, Matt is working with Brian Greene, PT DPT out of our Essex location. "I'm really excited about the increased exposure to sports-related injuries, particularly in overhead athletes. While injuries and pain can be challenging, I see them as an opportunity to help patients regain confidence and achieve their goals." We're so excited to have him with us and we can't wait to hear about his experiences at the end of his clinical rotation with us! #FXPhysicalTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #PT #PTStudent

Congratulations to Moravian University DPT faculty members Michael Steimling II PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT; Melinda Steimling, PT, DPT; and Kathleen Madara, PT, PhD and their colleague Philip Malloy on publication of their recent research, "The effects of running foot strike manipulation on pelvic floor muscle activity in healthy nulliparous females" in the Journal of Applied Biomechanics. The purposes of this research study were "1) to examine the effect of foot strike pattern on pelvic floor muscle activity during running in healthy women and 2) to investigate the relationship between changes in pelvic floor muscle activity and changes in running kinematics as a result of manipulating foot strike pattern." This research is important because "Understanding how the pelvic floor muscles respond to changes in impact-related kinematics in healthy women may inform potential treatment options for those who experience pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, like stress urinary incontinence during running." For more about this article, check out https://lnkd.in/ewMZ_6qM or contact Michael Steimling II PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT or Kathleen Madara, PT, PhD.
