Signs of market seasonality in Q3 have carried into Q4, but a freight market rebound is not expected this year, Ryder System, Inc. executives said Thursday on an earnings call. “What we saw in Q3 was a seasonal pickup, certainly not any type of larger pickup that would indicate the market is coming back,” CEO and Chairman Robert Sanchez said. “But a seasonal pickup is better than a decline.” #trucking #demand #seasonality #earnings #freight https://lnkd.in/emihqhtZ

Saia Inc. implemented a nearly 8% general rate increase last week as it attempts to offset expenses associated with $1 billion in investments. The company's revenue jumped 8.6% YoY last quarter, but its operating income dipped 2.5% YoY. “Freight moves around a little bit when you take the rate increase at times, and with the macro backdrop where it is, there’s customers that may go find other options,” CFO Matthew Batteh said on an earnings call Friday. “We’re willing to let that walk. We’re not going to go chase that.” #trucking #logistics #freight #rates

Leasing trucks, as opposed to buying, could save fleets up to 19% over a vehicle’s lifetime from procurement to disposal, according to a report by accounting giant KPMG released this month. The accounting firm noted that fleet managers and owners might underestimate or fail to include costs, making full-service leases that include things like legal fees, taxes and roadside assistance the better choice. #trucking #equipment #leasing #costsavings #taxes https://lnkd.in/eAmKCwvV
Report: Truck leasing may be better option, depending on fleet size
