We enter an exciting new era of health care as UC Davis Health breaks ground on the California Tower! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g-zJUfAA McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. SmithGroup Cambridge CM, Inc.
Today we broke ground on what will be the hospital of the future – the UC Davis Medical Center’s California Tower. The new tower will add nearly one million square feet of space to the eastern side of the existing medical center. It will include new operating rooms, an imaging center, leading edge facilities for pharmacy and burn care units, and about 334 private rooms for patients. More than 250 of the rooms are being designed for greater flexibility in the event of a patient surge such as a pandemic, massive wildfire or other disaster. These will easily convert into intensive-care-unit rooms with air isolation to treat patients of any level of hospitalization. “The addition of the California Tower to UC Davis Medical Center is a testament to our innovative forward thinking across our health system and main campus,” said UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May. “This project will position our researchers, students, faculty and staff to meet and adapt to regional health care needs for the next 50 years.” Learn more about the California Tower: https://lnkd.in/g-zJUfAA

This morning, we celebrated UC Davis Health’s state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) expansion. The 22,000-square-foot space adds 24 beds, including ED observation beds, allowing the emergency department to expand and continue to provide the services and care our patients deserve. This expansion is Phase 1 of adding observation beds to the ED. Once the California Tower opens in 2030, Phase 2 will add 10 more beds. Thank you to all involved! McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. The United States Resiliency Council has awarded UC Davis Health with platinum resiliency recognition for Parking Structure 4 (PS4). The award, presented by Clark Pacific, makes UC Davis Health the first university to receive this honor. The designation means that in case of a seismic event, PS4 has the ability to “right-size” itself, limiting damage.
