I’m filled with excitement today as we welcomed one of our refugee families to Indianapolis through the Welcome Corps program. It was such an emotional moment to witness them finally finding a new and safe home. A huge thanks to the sponsors who made this possible, and I’m incredibly proud of our team at Patchwork Indy for their dedication in making it all happen. Your story can make a difference! Every individual who becomes involved in sponsorship plays a direct role in changing lives—including their own. We’re inviting sponsors to “Share Your Why” for welcoming refugees not as strangers, but as new neighbors and future friends. Why did you join the Welcome Corps? Sponsoring creates a ripple effect that brings your community together around shared values of compassion, freedom, and safety. Tag someone who’s been part of your sponsor journey and #ShareYourWhy

Last week, the Welcome Corps on Campus team had the pleasure of making a stop in Chicagoland. Members of the Welcome Corps on Campus consortium, from Community Sponsorship Hub, NASH, and President's Alliance, came together to host a student engagement event at Chicago Public Library, followed by a Lunch & Learn session for prospective campuses, held at DePaul University. During the Lunch & Learn, we heard from members of DePaul University's campus sponsor group, GianMario Besana and Jill Nyhof-Rodriguez, who shared about their experience of welcoming a refugee student to DePaul in August. Together, we addressed questions and showcased the positive impact Welcome Corps on Campus has on campus communities. We’re excited to have engaged with the Chicagoland area and look forward to returning and collaborating with more universities and colleges interested in welcoming refugee students. Subscribe to our newsletter for updates on future events and other news!

As the world gathered for the UN General Assembly last month, we celebrated the impact of collective action through sponsorship programs like the Welcome Corps, where everyday Americans are stepping up to help refugees find community in the United States. Thank you Aurora Prize, Mayors Migration Council, Clinton Global Initiative, Concordia, #USRefugeeAdvisoryBoard and many others for hosting these powerful conversations! We’re inspired by the commitment of so many to make a difference in their communities through Welcome Corps, Welcome Corps at Work, and Welcome Corps on Campus. You, too, can join the movement. “Here, I’m not scared to say who I am. I’m not scared to tell anyone.” Worlds apart, Cabrel of Cameroon and Julieth of El Salvador fled their native countries in search of safety and a community that would accept them fully. They found that lifeline through two groups of everyday Americans who volunteered to join the Welcome Corps. By working with sponsors who are uniquely qualified and ready to welcome LGBTQ+ refugees, Welcome Corps and Rainbow Railroad help ensure refugees receive the protection and resources they need to thrive.
