🚨 New Research Alert 🚨
I am pleased to share that we have launched our latest research study on Women in Agribusiness: Opportunities and Challenges.
Our latest research report explores a paradox within India’s agricultural landscape, while women constitute a significant portion of the agricultural workforce and educational cohorts, their representation in formal agribusiness employment and leadership remains disproportionately low.
Key Insights
-Women face persistent leadership barriers despite forming agricultural operations' backbone.
-Rising female enrollment creates talent leakage with specialized capabilities remaining underutilized.
-Women's participation drives innovation, resilience, and sustainable growth in agribusiness.
-Effective support requires lifecycle interventions from education through leadership development.
-Transformation needs coordinated policy, industry, and institutional alignment for economic participation.
Five Strategic Priorities to Drive Change & the Path Forward: Recommendations for Systemic Change
Strengthening Industry-Academia Linkages
Expand internships, field-based learning, and mentorship programs to improve career readiness. Implement gender-sensitive infrastructure and policies to enable women’s participation in practical training.
Enhancing Career Transition Support
Establish structured career navigation programs that provide access to networks, sponsorships, and leadership training. Promote entrepreneurial pathways for women in agribusiness by integrating financial literacy and business incubation models.
Policy-Driven Interventions for Inclusive Growth
Scale initiatives like Mainstreaming Agriculture Curriculum in School Education (MACE) to expose students—especially young girls—to agriculture from an early stage. Strengthen state-level scholarships and outreach programs to reduce regional disparities in female enrollment.
Creating a Systemic Shift through FIELD FORWARD
FIELD FORWARD (Fostering Inclusion, Equity, Leadership, and Diversity in Agribusiness Workforce, Opportunities, Research, and Development) is a sector-wide coalition designed to drive systemic change by addressing key career transition points where women consistently exit the agribusiness pipeline.
This report is a collaboration between the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Godrej Agrovet Limited and GodrejDEI Lab.
We invite industry leaders, academic institutions, and policymakers to collaborate on implementing these solutions and reshaping the future of agribusiness. Reema Lucia
