1. Craftable E-Bike Battery.
Adds a craftable E-bike Battery vehicle mod to the bicycle that moderately increases speed while drastically reducing stamina cost.
2. Craftable Bouncy Shocks.
Adds craftable shocks that allow the bicycle to hop up just a little higher for those sweet jumps!
3. In development: A craftable bicycle pannier storage mod to add more storage capacity. I make no promises if or when I can get this off the ground, but I really want it to happen. My modding experience is limited to easy stuff in xml, the storage system uses C# and is a bit more complicated. I also need to add a third vehicle mod slot to the bike, but that should be easy. If someone reading this has the skill, I'd happily work with you. If I don't get to it in time, I heard that TFP is planning one sometime down the road.
There is no physical model represented on the bicycle when you add/remove the vehicle mods. I'm not that skilled yet, but if one of you want to help...
Mod Version 1.02 update: I was missing some code... the bike is now dyeable, and if you are wearing a headlamp that is turned on, it will direct light from the front of the bicycle.
Thank you to User AM1908 for pointing this out and providing the correction.
Though i usually prioritize game balance in my mods, the e-bike battery effectively obsoletes the mini-bike except for storage capacity.
Normally, I prefer game balance, but I can't help myself when it comes to the bicycle. I just enjoy that part of the game so much.
The idea of being able to upgrade the bicycle to extend it's usefulness and make it more fun exceeded my love of game balance.
"Why didn't you add schematics for the vehicle mods?"
Because I didn't want to delay the usefulness of the mods. The bike is only relevant in the early game.
If you are stuck waiting for RNG luck to favor you with a schematic, you might not get one in time for it to be of any good to you.
I like getting the bicycle ASAP, and being able to improve it's functionality early is exciting.
It breathes some fresh air into the early game.
"Why didn't you make the battery drain, and need to be recharged?"
I didn't want to. I like soft-focus realism, and worrying about electrical consumption was more work than I wanted to do for this project.
Some players will want that battery-drain for realism, but most won't like that hassle.
If you want to make it, I'll include it as a variant file, but I will not make it for you.
Here are some other mods to add with this mod:
As long as "FNS Super Rad BMX Vehicle Mods" loads first, it pairs well with:
"Bicycle part crafting no workbench" This mod allows you to craft the bicycle from your backpack, so you're not stuck waiting for a workbench.
"Falcons Bike Changes". If you have all the ingredients you can search the forge to craft the component bicycle handlebars/chassis. If you don't know what the ingredients are for the components, you can Track the recipe from your backpack, collect the ingredients, and craft the components in the forge.
All three of those mods work together to allow a player to feasibly get a bicycle much faster than doing 10 quests. Which makes it useful longer! In vanilla, no one crafts bikes, it takes too long, quests are more efficient. With these three mods, a character with Grease Monkey at level 1 can now get their bike faster, as it should be. <--TFP, are you guys taking notes on this?! ;P
How this mod came about:
SomeRandoOnDiscord1: "Ugh, I hate the stamina usage on the bicycle! Why hasn't anyone made a mod that eliminates stamina consumption on the bike!"
SomeRandoOnDiscord2: "...something technically challenging, something about balance, realism, and not obsoleting the mini-bike..."
FNS: "Why not just add an E-Bike Battery vehicle-mod, the mod slot is already there? You could then go just a little bit faster, and use a lot less stamina. This seems obvious to me?"
SomeRandoOnDiscord3: "Hey FNS, aren't you a modder now?"
SomeRandoOnDiscord2: "Yeah, wouldn't it be great if somebody made that mod. *Wink Wink."
SomeRandoOnDiscord3: "It sure would be. What do you think FNS? *Nudge Nudge."
SomeRandoOnDiscord1: "Make the damn mod FNS!"
FNS: "Alright already!"
Which led FNS to Guppy's Discord to try to figure it out, and the good folks there helped him with the xml.
You could say FNS still has his training wheels on for making mods.
While he was there...
V: "Hey FNS, you know what else would be fun? A neat bike mod that boosts hop force... if someone wanted to make it ;)"
FNS: "I HAVE TO MAKE THAT RIGHT NOW!"
And that's how it came into being.
Huge thanks are in order to the good folks at Guppy's Discord!
I would not have been able to bring you this mod if it wasn't for them.
Alter. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction and showing us how it was possible.
Pipermac and bdubyah. For being patient with me, providing continued support, and explaining how it worked.
Creepers152 and CTVI's SmokingTyres. For helping be part of the journey, and my comrades in the trenches.
Emu. She asked me to play her role down, but I can't. In my eyes, she's the MVP! I was about to give up on the stamina buff, but she kept at it. She made the stamina buff work, and put in the battery icon display (which was a really nice touch).
Installation
If you have never installed a Mod before, start here: How to add Mods to your 7D2D game
There are three options for installation, pick one.
1. Use the Vortex Mod Manager to install just this mod for you. The Vortex application will run it for you, but you have to launch the game from Vortex. I generally recommend this option for most users. Vortex is working fine for me playing with POIs and mods for 7D2D on 1.0. I have had no issues, and it makes things easy to update/disable mods. If you have issues with Vortex, lets troubleshoot them together.
2. If you are looking for a full package Quality of Life Vanilla+ experience, I give you my own curated Collection (ModPack) for 7D2D. It uses the Vortex Mod Manager to install my POIs, this mod, plus some of the best stable QoL mods currently available on Nexus for 7 days to die. Better 7D2D by FNS
3. Manual Installation:
(for old school modders who like more control)
Download the .zip file
Place the .zip file into your Mods folder and unzip the contents.
Notice 1: This is a server side mod.
Notice 2: Some users have stated EAC must be disabled for this mod to function properly.
Notice 3: "How do I know if the e-bike vehicle mod is working?"
When you mount the bicycle, you will see a battery-icon displayed on your HUD. Once you hold the turbo-boost button, you will notice your stamina decrease much more slowly compared to the vanilla bike. If you don't see these things, another mod, or load order issue is likely preventing functionality.
Notice 4: Mod Compatibility Issues:
- Any other game Mod that effects vehicles and/or the bicycle specifically could be disabling this mod's functionality.
- Watch for compatibility issues, and load order! I have done some testing, but not extensively with other vehicle mods. I load this Mod early before other vehicle mods.
- Any Mods that effect a players walking/running speed might have effects on this bicycle speed mod (because that's the way TFP coded how the bicycle works).
- Users have confirmed this Game Mod is not compatible with other Game Mods that allow you to stack vehicles.
- Beyond Storage (Craft from Containers): You will not be able to craft the bike, nor BMX vehicle mods with resources from the container. You will need to craft from backpack/workbench with resources in your backpack.
