Version 2.0 will follow shortly after it's been tested on PC.

OVERVIEW

Welcome to The Mobile Mechanic version 2.0!

Please note that any patches for prior versions will need to be updated.

The Mobile Mechanic adds craftable, portable workbenches that allow you to do any kind of crafting anywhere, including Power Armor and Automatron Robots. It also features the ability to scrap junk into its core components.

As a bonus I’ve included some updated Welding Goggles and a Welding Mask, which were accessories on some vanilla outfits, but are now actually wearable on their own.

This is a full remake of the original mod from the ground up featuring new art, new scripting, new gameplay, for a much more efficient and streamlined experience.

Aside from art, performance, and general improvements, a number of changes have been made to simplify how the mod works:

  • The multi-workbench no longer requires separate confusing "kits" for workbench functions. Simply craft the all-in-one Portable Workbench, and you're good-to-go!
  • New art and support added for Automatron - craft and modify Robots anywhere you want! (Requires Automatron DLC)
  • Hotkey support in three forms for your convenience: Chem for favorite hotkey, FO4 Hotkeys, and if you have F4SE/MCM installed, a streamlined MCM options menu.
  • Fun little animations when you set up the table:

HOW TO USE (BENCHES)

  • Everything is craftable at the Chemistry Station under UTILITY. You will see Portable Workbench, Portable Power Armor Station, Portable Robot Workbench.
  • The Portable Robot Workbench will not be available until you finish the MECHANICAL MENACE quest.
  • The benches require the Local Leader and Scrapper perks to craft, for balance.
  • To activate the Portable Workbench, simply find it under the MISC tab, and DROP IT from your Pip-Boy. The bench will set itself up in front of the player and will be ready to use. Alternately you can use the new hotkey system detailed below.
  • Activating the Multi-Workbench will give you a menu of what kind of crafting you'd like to do, or junk scrapping to turn your heavy junk into lighter components.
  • To pick it up, just press the secondary/tertiary activation option available when hovering over the workbench.
  • Anything leftover in the benches will be transferred back to your inventory.

HOW TO USE (HOTKEY)
There are three options available for hotkey use to quick deploy the workbenches. You must have Workbenches in your inventory.

  • CHEM: Instead of finding/dropping the item in your Pip-Boy, you can craft a new chem to open a new quick deploy menu. You can favorite this for quick usage.
  • FO4 HOTKEYS: If you're using FO4 Hotkeys, you can use the command: cqf FS_MobileMechanic_SystemQuest QuickDeploy
  • MCM: If you're using F4SE/MCM a Mod Config menu will be visible straight away. You can assign a hotkey here and toggle some other options, such as no perk requirements to craft, and hide the menu chem.

INSTALLATION

  • Download and activate the Main file.
  • If you have Automatron, also download the Automatron Add-On, which requires the Main file.
  • If you have F4SE / MCM installed the configuration menu will appear in the Mod Config menu.

COMPATIBILITY & DEPENDENCIES

  • There are no external dependencies for the core mod.
  • If you want the MCM make sure you have F4SE and MCM installed, but they are not required for the mod to function.
  • The Automatron Add-On in the MAIN files section requires the Automatron DLC, of course.
  • 3rd-party patches made for v1.2 will not work with version 2.0. Please contact the respective author for updates.

UPDATING FROM PREVIOUS VERSION

Please note that any patches made for version 1.2 will not work with this version. Contact the author of the patch in question for an update.

If you are running version 1.2 and would like to upgrade to version 2.0 mid-game, you can perform the following procedure:

  • BACK UP YOUR SAVE!
  • Ensure there are no Portable Workbenches placed around in the world. Pack it all up.
  • Drop everything related to the Mobile Mechanic into a container.
  • Go into an interior and save, ideally a new save so you still have your backup with 1.2
  • Quit the game, remove Mobile Mechanic 1.2
  • Load the save you just made, which will warn you about missing plugin, say yes
  • Once the game loads, save it again
  • Quit, install version 2.0
  • Load the game and you should be good-to-go!
  • If you run into trouble, you should re-install version 1.2 and load the save you made BEFORE REMOVING 1.2

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • When crafting a robot outside of a Settlement, they will have no home and will idle in that area unless you make them a follower.
  • To make a robot crafted int he wilderness into a Settler, make them a companion, then dismiss them to any settlement, as normal.
  • Because the items appear when dropped from your inventory, an alternate way to store them is to drop them in a container.
  • The animations sometimes don’t line up perfectly because they were made for the big benches, but that’s blurred in the background while crafting anyway.

Enjoy!
