(Previously known as Vault-Tec Workshop Lighting Fix)

What does this mod do?

This mod started as a simple recreation of some of the lighting features found within the original Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul. Over time, I decided to bring in more of the old features, and introduce new ones.

VTWOR in its current state addresses three of the main lighting issues within the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC; brightness, lighting node positions, and the bug that caused lights to appear as if they were turned off. It also addresses some minor texture and quality-of life issues (see Features), enhances building with Vault lights, and allows you to snap lights to some building pieces.

Features:

Lighting

  • Lighting bug that caused lights that were on to appear off has been fixed.
  • Lights now project light from the correct source (see screenshots).
  • Lights now have the same values as those found in existing Vaults, such as Vault 81 and the entrance of Vault 88 (see screenshots).
  • Lights are now spotlights instead of omnidirectional. This effectively eliminates light bleeding through walls.
  • Comes with three lighting "presets," these include [LOW], [HIGH], and [ULTRA] lights. See the performance section for more details.
  • Adds a new pivoting spotlight.
  • Adds the curved wall light seen in other Vaults.

Power

  • The Vault Power Conduit has had its range doubled.
  • The bridge building pieces now carry power like the rest of the Vault pieces.

Snapping

  • Wall lights now snap to walls. Work-in-progress; not all pieces have snap points.
  • Ceiling lights now snap to ceilings. Again, this is a work-in-progress. not all pieces have snap points.
  • Illuminated Vault signs now snap above doorways.
  • Overseer desk now snaps to Overseer Room pieces.

Misc

  • All of the Vault "rooms" (except the Overseer set) are now derived from a single set of meshes, rather than having individual meshes for every room. This allows for a smaller file size and streamlined updating process. It also gives every piece a consistent look from the outside.
  • Crates can be stacked on top of each other.
  • Adds a buildable "shortcut" to your workshop's inventory. It is found under Furniture > Containers.

Will this mod have compatibility issues?

This mod changes 10 of the lights, 15 of the doorway signs, and 124 of the building pieces from the Vault-Tec Workshop. If any of those components have been changed by other mods, then yes; there will be issues. This mod does however address three of the problems that have been addressed separately, so you will only require this mod.

Known Incompatibilities

  • Vanilla Extensions by Ethreon - conflicts with snapping on some building pieces.
  • Workshop Rearranged by d81 - conflicts with snapping and location of building pieces in menus

Will this mod cause performance issues?

This mod comes with three flavors of lights; [LOW], [HIGH], and [ULTRA]. Your standard, default vault lights have been swapped with the [LOW] set, so whatever lights you had placed before installing this mod will be set to [LOW]. These lights cast no shadows and don't have lens flare.

Next is the [HIGH] set. These lights are a big upgrade from [LOW], as they cast shadows and create lens flare. Rooms that have these lights will look much better as the lighting won't be dull and flat. However, using too many in one place will without a doubt drop your FPS. I recommend building with [LOW] lights as a default and replacing them with [HIGH] lights in areas you want to look better.

Finally, we have the [ULTRA] lights. These lights are identical to the [HIGH] `lights, except they have volumetric lighting enabled. I would be careful with these and use them sparingly for two reasons:

  • The volumetric effect can be overpowering if your lights are not placed correctly.
  • Using too many of these lights will tank your FPS.

Are there any requirements for this mod?

Make sure you have Archive Invalidation enabled, as without it the mod will not work correctly. Most mod managers have options to automatically handle this for you.

Other than that, the only hard requirement for this mod is the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, naturally.

While not a requirement, I do suggest installing Vault 88 Essentials which is a great collection of even more fixes and new functionality.

How do I install this mod?

Due to the nature of mod incompatibilities and the vast amounts of differing configurations out there, I will only ever recommend using a mod manager to install mods. In particular, I always use and recommend Mod Organizer 2.

I have another question.

Ask away in the comments. If you have a bug to report then please be as detailed as possible with your issue. However, please keep in mind that I am not an expert modder by any means. This is simply an update of an older mod with some other stuff thrown in.
