- THIS MOD REQUIRES SETTLEMENT MENU MANAGER -

SUMMARY
Vault 88 Essentials is a mod that combines either the features, principles or fixes from several popular mods for Vault 88 (or any modded Vault Settlements) with the intention of giving players the ability and freedom to build the vault of their dreams without incredibly cluttered mod lists, workshop menus or the settlements themselves. Adjustments go from an extension to the original vanilla sets to add more function based rooms, to a couple of new pieces for set to be able to make more specific layouts and general fixes to mesh normals, snap points and pathing.

WHY
Ever been trying to build the perfect Vault 88 and stumbled upon any of the following?
  • The kit is very limited, and you cant barely make any room different from another.
  • The bathrooms for your quarters are the same size as the dorms.
  • Having to cycle through dozens of menus and mods to find that piece you are looking for.
  • Great but old mods messing up your workshop menus and disappearing categories.
  • Pathing problems, bad snaps, too much variance or too less.

Well, either you are closing your eyes to a situation you do not wish to acknowledge, or you are not aware of the calibre of disaster indicated by the presence of old mods and Bethesda bugs in our Workshop! Well... you got trouble my friend. Right here, I say trouble right here in River Cit...Excuse me.

I mean, I encountered them as well. There are many good mods that do one thing or another, some add rooms, some fix lights, some add snap points. But most of them don't stay consistent if you put them all together and sometimes you have to choose between a fix or an addition. I say no more! I went through all those mods we all have in our load orders and tried to standardize and implement their best features while leaving room for other mods that might be more of a personal choice for each person. This gives you the bare essentials, just the basic pieces and corners to be able to build more unique rooms and to suit your vault building needs, plus a small amount of variance and options for different colour and room themes. All integrated and standardized with proper snap points for lights and signs.

FEATURES
A small outline of the features contained in the mod, might be adding more in the future but first priority is to make sure all works as intended and the bare essentials are covered.

THESE FEATURES ARE NOT RESERVED TO VAULT 88 AND CAN BE USED ON ANY MODDED VAULT SETTLEMENTS

ROOMS & KITS
  • Corner variants for Atrium and Room sets, plus all custom included sets in the style of Vault 88 Room Corners Plus
  • New Set of Single Tile Rooms, specially useful for storage rooms, crafting or bathrooms/showers
  • New Reactor build set, like the one on Vault 88 - More Vault Rooms but more akin to the reactor room theme of the rest of vaults in the game.
  • New Room Sets:
- Barber
- School
- Lavatory (2 Colours)
- Luxury Suite (2 Colours)
- New Modern Quarters (3 variants in the style of Vault 76)
  • All the above mentioned sets have the corner and single tile room pieces and can be found under the vanilla menus for vault structures.
  • All the above have been manually fixed to implement the snapping from Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul Redux (VTWOR) and also have had some minor texture and mesh normals fix. (basically some pieces had weird shading and some minor bugs in vanilla)

FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS
  • Implemented the snap points for all the sets to the vault lights, and combined a couple of features from beloved vault light mods that include:
  • Extended radius and colour tweak for a less absolute darkness vault (each light you add will affect performance no matter what so having to place 20 per room wasn't a good call Todd)
  • Added the spotlight feature to the lights that make sense for a nice visual effect, while keeping other lights omni to be able easily light the vault without sacrificing looks nor performance as much.
  • Lights will snap to all walls, some to half height, some to full height, some to ceiling and some to under the walkways and bridges.
  • Implemented various other fixes like bridges not transmitting power or doing so but requiring power(?)
  • Fixed some misc pieces from other mods that were broken or had no snaps nor were functional

ADDITIONS
  • New set of working Doors with override boxes from Vault 88 - More Room Items, that will snap to any of the pieces from vanilla and the mod and also should allow npcs to properly navigate the Vault.
  • Snappable Vault Wall Lights from Snappable Vault Wall Lights
  • New set of snappable wall decorations that include vents and general utilities that can be found in vanilla vaults.

REQUIREMENTS
The only real requirement for this mod to work is Settlement Menu Manager, without it you won't get all the menus for the new sets, but just the vanilla additions and new corners and

This mod uses Settlement Menu Manager to add custom settlement menu categories. This means that you don't need to worry about running a special holotape/chem before you uninstall it: just remove it from your load order and you're done.

IMPORTANT

There's a bug in the vanilla game that will make you CTD when scrapping/moving objects around a settlement if you uninstall any mod that added power connected items without scrapping them properly. Even if you don't find the bug, its super recommended to keep "Power Grid Tools" from R2K's Gameplay Mods and run the command "cpg 1" while on your settlement if you are experiencing any weirdness or you just uninstalled this mod or any of the others that added vault pieces

INSTALLATION
Install with Vortex or place the files and esp into your data folder, then enable the mod using the file manager of your choice.

COMPATIBILITY
This mod uses SMM for its menu injection and doesn't edit any cell nor NPC records so it will be compatible with anything. However be advised that if you keep other mods that add vault pieces and kits to the vanilla vault workshop then you'll probably end up with loads of menu cluttering and duplicated sets, but I mean, that is what happens when you add various mods that do the same thing. (See redundant mods or sticky post)

Settlement Objects Expansion Pack is compatible, but it will give you some duplicated pieces that will not have my better snaps. Its easy to spot them though cause the author has marked them with [SOE]

In order to take advantage of the snapping points and mesh fixes I recommend loading my mod lower than any mod that adds or touches stuff to Vault 88 or the Vault Tec Workshop, but above anything else.

REDUNDANT MODS
The following mods have either been integrated or redone in a similar fashion, which makes having them redundant. Not all of their features are part of this mod nor their are just merged with mine, but rather do similar things or give you similar pieces and fixes. If you keep them installed you might see duplicated assets, missing snap points and other mysteria.

RECOMMENDED MODS

  •  Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul Redux (VTWOR) Can't mention this mod enough. Its the absolute best and I used its snapping system as a base to build my mod. Its absolutely compatible with Vault 88 Essentials. I didn't want to fully integrate it but you must absolutely grab it for a complete overhaul of the Vault 88 building system. Load before for my version of the lights or after for litbeep's lights (your vault might become a bit darker)
  • Vault 88 Template - Optimised Absolutely necessary once your vault starts getting big. Its ridiculous that Bethesda didn't actually optimize the caves for Vault 88. This makes a massive difference and can help a lot with FPS drops in the area. Grab once you have scrapped all though, otherwise you'll be missing on a big chunk of nuclear material and circuitry

AUTHORS & CREDITS
This mod is not just a compilation of other mods, but truth is that It wouldn't be possible without the amazing work done by several authors over the years. Some of these mods have been abandoned or became obsolete or the authors straight out gave them away to the public. Others have been long without news. When the mods where not directly left as open source, I checked with their authors and In case I couldn't contact them I choose to just recreate their features without their assets. If I missed any credits please do let me know and I will include it ASAP.  The mods that inspired, have been used as resources or I Incorporated include:
