Survival Mode is a Creation that introduces a new gameplay mode for Skyrim Special Edition. It was released for PC through Steam beta on September 28, 2017 and became available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on October 4, 2017. It was free for the first week of release and now costs 500 CC Credits to purchase.

This Creation works well in conjunction with the Camping and Adventurer's Backpack Creations, which help alleviate some of the difficulties in Survival Mode.

In Survival Mode, your greatest adversary is Skyrim itself. Unrelenting cold, harsh wilderness, famine and fatigue - do you have the strength to endure? (Creation features new gameplay mode including new UI, and can be turned on or off in Settings menu. For details, consult Help Menu. If you start a new character, Survival mode does not enable until after you leave character generation.)

Why this mod?

I really love the survival mode, but I found some penalties too harsh, so I tweaked it. Also, I wanted my own all-in-one mod, regarding the several mods already out there.

What does this mod do?

The hunger need rate was cut in a half, so that you now have to eat every 8 in-game hours, instead of 4 in-game hours as before. Furthermore, fast travel has been enabled and now you can sleep outdoors to get a "Rested" effect without being punished for doing so.The penalties for fatigue and hunger have been changed as follows:

Hunger

Stage 0: Well Fed
Was before: Stamina regenerates <10>% faster.
Changed to: Stamina regenerates <25>% faster.

Stage 1: Satisfied
Was before: You are not hungry.
Changed to: No Changes

Stage 2: Peckish
Was before: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <30>% slower. You are <30>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.
Changed to: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <10>% slower. You are <15>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.

Stage 3: Hungry
Was before: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <40>% slower. You are <50>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.
Changed to: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <20>% slower. You are <30>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.

Stage 4: Famished
Was before: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <40>% slower. You are <70>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.
Changed to: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <30>% slower. You are <60>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.

Stage 5: Starving
Was before: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <40>% slower. You are <90>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.
No changes: Total stamina is reduced. Attacks with weapons are <40>% slower. You are <90>% less effective with using shields and sneaking.

Fatigue

Stage 1: Refreshed
Was before: You feel refreshed.
Changed to: No Changes

Stage 2: Drained

Changed to: Total magicka is reduced. Magicka and stamina regenerate <25>% slower. Beneficial potions are <10>% less effective.

Stage 3: Tired

Changed to: Total magicka is reduced. Magicka and stamina regenerate <50>% slower. Beneficial potions are <25>% less effective.

Stage 4: Weary

Stage 5: Debilitated

Changed to: Total magicka is reduced. Magicka and stamina no longer recover. Beneficial potions are <75>% less effective.

Food & Beverages

Small food items now restore 60 points of hunger. (Before: 18 points)
Very small food items now restore 18 points of hunger. (Before: 2 points)

Fire salts are no longer needed as ingredient for hot soups. They have been replaced with snowberries. (Yes, I know: although fire salts seem suitable for making hot soups, they are quiet rare, so I made this change.)

Beverages such as wine now increase warmth by 25 points and restore 60-180 points of cold (depending on the value of the beverage). I know, this will make no sense in real life, but I wanted an alternative to hot soups ;)

Carry Weight

Was before: Carry weight is reduced by 150 points.
Changed to: Carry weight is reduced by 100 points.

You have to toggle the survival mode off and on, to get this change to work. Turn survival mode off, wait 10 seconds and let the carry weight value return to normal, then enable survival mode again.

Extra Pockets

Was before: Carrying capacity is increased by 50.
Changed to: Carrying capacity is increased by 100 (as before).

If you have Extra Pockets already unlocked, then you have to reactivate this perk, to get this change to work. First, toggle survival mode off and on as described above. Open the console and type "player.removeperk 00096590" without quotation marks and hit enter. Then type "player.addperk 00096590" and hit enter. The carry weight value should now be correct. Alternatively, you can make the Pickpocket skill legendary, and then unlock the perk again. Or, if you have Dragonborn completed, you can use a dragonsoul to clear and regain the perks in that tree and unlock Extra Pockets again.

The Steed Stone

Was before: Increases carry weight by 50.
Changed to: Increases carry weight by 100 (as before).

If you have The Steed Stone already active in your save game, then you have to temporarily switch to another Standing Stone and activate The Steed Stone again, to get this change to work.
