What is this?
This mod adds a number of persistent wandering Reaper Leviathans.
They are persistent in the sense that, once they are de-spawned within the game, the mod simulates their movement on the world map.
Once the player gets close enough to a simulated persistent reaper, the mod will spawn the reaper into its simulated position.
The locations of the persistent reapers can be visualized by using the "Print Reaper Map to File" button.
Why might I want this?
If you want to add more terror into your gameplay experience
If you want to make the game more unpredictable
If you think Reaper Leviathans should exist everywhere (except beyond the crater edge)
If you just like Reaper Leviathans!
Options:
Toggle Persistent Reapers: enable or disable the persistent reapers
Number of Persistent Reapers: change the number of persistent reapers across the whole map. See ReaperNumber
Persistent Reaper Behavior: see Behavior
Scent Lifetime (seconds): see Human-Hunter
Depth Map: optionally disallow reapers from entering shallow areas
Reaper Update Interval (seconds): Optionally make reapers update less frequently, to save on performance.
Print Reaper Map to File: print an ascii map of persistent reaper locations to a file in the mod directory
ReaperNumber:
The default value is 50 persistent reapers. This makes for 1 reaper per area about the size of a mushroom forest.
You can print the reaper map to visualize a reaper density that's good for you.
Behavior:
Normal: unchanged from vanilla
Bloodthirsty: Reapers are hungrier and more aggressive
HumanHunter: see Human-Hunter
Human-Hunter:
The player leaves behind a trail anywhere they go. The trail expires [Scent Lifetime] seconds after being drawn. If a persistent reaper (simulated or not) happens to find the trail, they will follow it until the trail runs cold.
If a persistent reaper sees or hears the player, it will lock onto the player. Once locked on, a persistent reaper will not easily be shaken.
These reapers are only interested in the player, and will not target any other creature.
The Depth Map:
The Depth Map is used to define legal placements for the persistent reapers.
In general it keeps them out of the void, and optionally out of the shallows.
The included depth maps can be visualized in the blue images on this web page.
You can generate a custom map using the Companion Mod: Depth Scanner.
Future Work:
Improve the readability of the Reaper Map
Alternate Persistent Reaper skins/colors (please contact me if you do this kind of thing)
