The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is Samsung's 2024 clamshell foldable phone. We are now getting closer and closer to the release date for the device - which is officially marked on July 10. Leaks and rumors are building up the hype, as per usual with any big phone reveal, and we're here for it. Now, we also have reportedly the entire spec sheet for the foldable leaked.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 could either retain the 3.4-inch outer display of its predecessor, or if earlier rumors are to be believed, it could grow to 3.9-inch. The main display is expected to be 6.7 inches, similarly to its predecessor (although, when you account for the rounded edges of the Flip 5, the display gets to 6.6 inches).

Apart from the increase in the outer screen real estate, we expect a similar design to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 (albeit slightly thinner when folded). So, expect the same clamshell foldable form factor, as well as some beautiful colors to choose from, that have extensively leaked as well. Some rumors indicate a slight improvement to the hinge mechanism, so that's also in the cards, as well as a possibly less visible crease.

As for the camera, things are getting more exciting. Leaks point to a new 50MP main sensor, which (if true) will be a substantial upgrade from the Flip 5's 12MP one. Apart from the new main camera, we still expect a dual-camera setup, and so far, leaks are not talking about an improved second camera. The selfie camera is rumored to be 10MP.

The phone will likely come with Galaxy AI support, Android 14, and the usual foldable features such as Flex mode. Luckily, the earlier rumors about an Exynos-powered variant may turn out not to be true, so we can expected a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip to power the foldable. Also, it seems it's finally getting 12GB of RAM. And a bigger battery - 4,000mAh.

A leak also noted we might see a price hike of around €100 for the foldables this year. The leaked info doesn't come from the most reliable source out there and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt. However, we cannot completely discard it either.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 release date

Samsung usually unveils its high-end foldables during a Summer unpacked event. As per tradition, the event usually takes place in late July or early August.

This time, it's happening on July 10, and Samsung has already announced the Unpacked event date.

The Flip 6 predecessor, the Flip 5, was announced on July 26.

*Probable date - the information is not confirmed. The announcement date is confirmed, so we expect the phones to hit the shelves two weeks later.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 price

The US price for the Flip 6 remains under wraps for now. We assume the pricing strategy will remain the same as the Flip 6's predecessor. However, a price increase isn't out of the question, especially now that we've had a semi-trustable leak about a price hike of €100 more, which could amount to $100 more stateside. The leak doesn't come from a very reliable leaker though, so for now, we're taking it with a grain of salt.

Here's what we expect for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 price, and what previous generations of Flips costed:

*Expected prices (no leaked info yet)

Galaxy Z Flip 6 camera

Cameras aren't exactly the strongest suit of a foldable phone. Over the years, cameras haven't really been a focus for a foldables and they weren't getting the best sensors.

However, maybe things are bound to change with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, if rumors are to be believed. According to rumors (which has since been confirmed by reputable leakers), a 50MP main camera seems to be in the works for the Flip 6. This will be a huge upgrade over the Flip 5's 12MP camera.

Apart from an upgraded main camera, you can expect a dual-camera setup with a 12MP ultra-wide like the Flip 5. The foldable will most likely have a third camera (the selfie cam on the inner screen), which could end up being 10MP.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 storage

As for storage, we are not currently expecting jaw-dropping surprises. Things are already pretty reliable with storage when it comes to Samsung phones in general, and foldables in particular. For one, the Flip 5 is available in two storage configurations: 256GB or 512GB. It's highly likely the Flip 6 to come in these two storage variants as well.

Usually, phones that come with more storage that that are more geared towards power users, and such phones include the beasty Galaxy S24 Ultra or the Z Fold 5 (these both have 1TB storage options as well). The Flip 6 isn't branded as a power-user phone though, so it may happen that it's not going to have a 1TB storage version. But of course, Samsung may decide to surprise us!

Galaxy Z Flip 6 design

Clamshell foldables gain points for design over other phones automatically - just because of their unique and recognizable form factor. Leaks are showing that we might be getting an even bigger outer display with the Flip 6, which is an improvement of an already quite useful cover display.

The Flip 5 improved upon the tiny outer display of the Flip 4 (which really didn't allow for much to be done on it) and brought more functionality to it. The Flip 5's outer screen measures 3.4 inches, which is a big improvement over the Flip 4's tiny 1.9-inch outer screen.

Things are reportedly going to get even better with the Flip 6. Reputable leaker Ross Young, who's been right about loads of Samsung-related things, states the Flip 6 outer display may go all the way up to 3.9 inches. Other leakers have also confirmed the purported upgrade, so it's closer and closer now to being true. However, the most recent leaks, including by reputable leaker Evan Blass indicate that the cover screen will remain at 3.4 inches.

Recently, Samsung itself has leaked the Z Flip 6 and it has appeared alongside its bigger brother in a promo image. As we can see on the leaked image, Samsung is most likely keeping its signature folder look for the outer display.

We also have leaked cases for the Flip 6, which show the mainly similar design to its predecessor. We have some slight difference in the look though: we have less space between the two camera lenses, and the speaker grille is changed from multiple small holes to one single cutout:

Last time, Samsung improved on the hinge of the Flip 5 with a new hinge technology which helped make the foldable slightly slimmer. Recently, a rumor from @TheGalox_ on X (a leaker who is sometimes right and sometimes wrong) says that we can expected an improved hinge and internal layout. He doesn't specify more on how the hinge will be improved, though.

Leaks also indicate we can expect a thinner foldable this time - thinner by 0.2 inches when folded (other dimensions remain the same as predecessor).

As for colors, Samsung is known to offer beautiful colors for its premium phones. It's likely the Flip 6 to continue the tradition. Rumors suggest the following colors could be the main Z Flip 6 hues: Light Blue, Mint, Silver Shadow, Yellow, Black (referred to as 'Crafted Black'), Peach, White, and Lavender. And now, some of these colors have leaked online:

Galaxy Z Flip 6 display specs

Ross Young's leak says the outer display of the Z Flip 6 will be even bigger at 3.9 inches. Young also said the foldable screen may be bigger, but he didn't specify by how much. However, a recent leak indicates the outer screen may be at 3.4-inch (same as predecessor). It is possible the other display specs for the Flip 6 to remain similar to its predecessor, apart from the fact that a recent leak details the cover display will be IPS instead of OLED.

Main Z Flip 6 display spects (the folding screen):
  • Size to be a bit bigger than 6.6 inches, most likely 6.7
  • Expected resolution 2640 x 1080 (FHD+)
  • Dynamic AMOLED 2X
  • 120Hz display refresh rate

Outer Z Flip 6 display specs (cover screen):
  • Size to be around 3.9 inches (or 3.4 according to most recent leak)
  • Expected resolution 720 x 748
  • According to a recent leak, it seems it will be IPS instead of OLED

Galaxy Z Flip 6 battery and charging specs

We are most likely getting an upgrade in the battery performance of the foldable phone. Rumors claim we may see a 4,000mAh battery for the Flip 6, which, if ends up being true, is awesome news. Recent leaks are also corroborating this information:

In fact, battery upgrades are always awesome news, as this is an aspect of modern phones that can be improved almost endlessly.

Samsung hasn't upgraded the Flip battery for a while. Last year's Galaxy Flip 5 sports a 3,700mAh battery with charging speeds of 25W wired and 10W wireless. On the other hand, the 2022 Flip 4 also offers the same battery specs. So it seems highly likely the Flip 6 will get a battery performance boost this time.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 features and software

Evan Blass's recent leak shows us almost everything that Samsung will advertise with the Flip 6:

We expect the phone to ship with Android 14 and One UI 6, and will then be probably updated to One UI 7 and Android 15 in late 2024. Samsung's much advertised hot features, Galaxy AI, are also likely to be present on the Flip 6. Generative AI features included in Galaxy AI are Live Translate, Circle to Search, features to edit photos, and other cool and fancy generative AI tricks.

Apart from that, we expect the foldable-specific features from the Flip 5 like for example Flex Mode to be available for the Flip 6 as well. And there's plenty of space for Samsung to surprise us with new tricks.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 hardware

The clamshell foldables by Samsung always come with the latest and greatest chip. In the Z Flip 6's case, this means a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 8GB of RAM for seamless multitasking (12GB could be an option as well) , and a starting storage of 256GB. A bigger storage variant of 512GB is also expected. As we mentioned earlier, a 1TB version is unlikely.

Earlier we had rumors about the foldable sporting an Exynos chip in some regions, which is a strategy that Samsung hasn't used so far on its foldables. However, more recent leaks say that the Flip will come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and there won't be any Exynos variant. So for now, it seems the Exynos scare is over.

The phone has also recently leaked on Geekbench, which shows its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and 12GB of RAM.

The numbers that the Flip 6 was able to score on Geekbench are great: 2,247 for single-core and 6,857 for multi-core. That's a big improvement over the Flip 5's 1,984 and 5,194 results, and is getting me excited for the performance of the phone. The Geekbench listing also revealed a model with 12GB of RAM, and all this indicates Samsung is finally taking its clamshell seriously.

All in all, that's what we know about the foldable so far. This article is updated regularly so make sure you bookmark this page to stay on top of the Flip 6 information before its official release.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 preliminary comparisons

Although the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is not yet official, we already somewhat know what to expect, so we've created preliminary comparisons to help you get a picture about this phone and competitors.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs iPhone 16 Pro - at first glance, those two phones are incomparible. However, there's more under the surface. How is the Z Flip 6 shaping up to compete with the iPhone 16 Pro? All is there in our preliminary comparison.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Galaxy Z Fold 6 - wondering which premium Samsung foldable to go for? This preliminary comparison goes through all the expected differences between the two models to help you decide.

Should you wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 6?

  • You should wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 6if you haven't upgraded in a while and are clinging to a relatively older Flip. If you have a phone older than the Flip 4 lineup should probably wait to see what major improvements the Flip 6 could possibly bring. It could be quite a substantial update with loads of added value. Also, if you're looking to hop on the foldable train, you should probably wait for the Flip 6 before choosing which foldable to go for.

  • You should not wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 if you rock the Flip 5. Although there are some rumored improvements, the difference between the two models may not be big enough to warrant an upgrade.
