Apple has announced its latest iPad Airs and, yes, that's an "s" at the end. This year we have an 11" iPad Air and a 13" iPad Air. So, with the bigger body do we get more battery life and faster charging? Well, it's still not quite clear, but maybe not...

Apple doesn't specify the battery capacity and charging speed of its devices, which includes its iPad tablets. After our tests, however, and a bit of calculation, we estimate the numbers you see above. We have done our calculations based on the watt-hours (28.65Wh and 40.88Wh) provided by Apple and assuming the voltage based on previous and other iPad models.

11" iPad Air M2 (2024)

Charging speed: between 20-30W

The battery size of the 11" iPad Air M2 should be about the same as last year's model. We say "should be" because Apple doesn't actually state the battery capacity of its tablets, so we kind of have to guess based on the 28.93‐watt‐hour it has written on its website.

Apple claims that this battery is enough to last users up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‐Fi or watching video and up to 9 hours when using cellular data network.

As for charging, just like with its predecessor, the new 11" iPad Air maxes out somewhere between 20-30W of power input. If it is anything like the 2022 model, you can juice it up from 0-100% in about 2 hours and 15 minutes using a compatible 30W charger.

The new 13-inch model of the iPad Air is as different as the iPhone 15 Plus is to the iPhone 15. In other words, the expected upgrades are mainly two: a larger battery, as well as a larger display and better audio quality.

With some informed calculation on our side, we venture to guess it is somewhere around 9,705mAh. Interestingly, however, Apple claims the same 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‐Fi or watching video and up to 9 hours when using cellular data network like with the smaller 11" M2 Air. Here are the results we got from our testing:

If logic serves, though, the larger model should have longer battery life. We will let you know more after we pace both 2024 iPad Air models through our battery life tests.

Charging-wise, the bigger 13" Air most likely sports the same speeds as its smaller counterpart. That is at least if we were to judge by past iPad Pros. If that's the case, the plus-sized Air will take longer to fully charge.
