Emotional regulation is a significant challenge for individuals with Autism and ADHD. Children with Autism and ADHD may struggle to identify, understand, and manage their emotions effectively, leading to difficulties in regulating their behavior and responses to various situations. As a therapist, I assist in facilitating understanding of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors which is crucial in helping these individuals develop essential skills for emotional regulation.
Creating a safe and supportive environment where children with Autism and ADHD feel comfortable expressing their emotions and thoughts. By using techniques such as art and play therapy, social stories, and strength-based therapies, assists them to recognise and label their emotions, understand the triggers and learn skills for regulating their emotions.
By fostering a team approach and providing consistent support across different settings allows for generalised skills and apply them throughout their day. Working collaboratively withparents and stakeholders allows for individualised strategies and interventions that support emotional regulation, social interaction and thrive in a day to day environment.
