I have been providing supportive, results-oriented counselling, and training other counsellors & psychologists, for 25 years. My passion & enthusiasm for helping people make positive lasting changes in their lives remains strong. I am devoted to listening closely to my clients, understanding their concerns, & helping them find solutions that work for them. Primarily a cognitive-behavioural therapist, I draw on various evidence-based therapeutic methods, matching strategies with client needs & goals. I provide individual, couple & group therapy. Counselling can be helpful whether we are facing a crisis, simply fine-tuning, or looking to make major lifestyle changes. Providing encouragement, guidance & feedback, I help people 1) examine their thoughts, feelings & behaviour 2) gain insight into their concerns & 3) identify steps to help them effect change & reach their goals.
I worked as a psychologist in the Northwest Territories & Nunavut for several years. I have travelled in North America to train other professionals who are working with clients in Wellness Centres, Drug Courts, & Corrections. All of these experiences have been incredibly rewarding. The group focuses on skills to help us cope & address the challenges we are facing. This includes identifying: early warning signs of stress, stress related symptoms, key stressors, & current coping strategies. Participants will learn & practice effective strategies including: calming the mind & body, challenging negative thoughts, understanding what you can & cannot control, changing behaviour patterns, problem solving, and steps to establishing & maintaining healthy balance. Each person brings their own set of unique strengths to the group.

This group is for people who would like additional support because of their current circumstances. It is not intended to replace individual counselling. The focus will be on discussing current concerns, offering emotional support, and sharing strategies people have found effective. The topics will overlap some with the Stress Management group and the Assertiveness group. Talking with others can often help put our problems in perspective and remind us that we are not alone. Connecting with others can be very rewarding.
