EMDR is a therapy that has you focus on a trigger or trauma while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movement, tapping or tones), leading to a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the incident. Thoughts, behaviours, feelings, traumas or environmental triggers may be maintaining your stress, grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, or other issues. EMDR and other methods can improve your physical, emotional and psychological health and wellness to increase your sense of well‐being, alleviate feelings of stress, reframe negative thoughts, or work through any recent crises or past traumas.

EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for triggers and trauma that follows a well-defined protocol but leaves room for flexibility. Using bilateral stimulation (eye-movement, tones or tapping), EMDR reduces the charge of an underlying negative cognition triggered by an incident and balances out a more positive or adaptive feeling. With an ecopsychology approach, I find EMDR - a somatic/body processing technique using alternating bilateral stimulation (eye movement, tapping or tones) - as an effective way to decrease the emotional charge attached to incidents, negative beliefs, thoughts and more. I also use IFS-informed EMDR (Internal Family Systems) and most recently I am training in Hypnotherapy to also use with EMDR.
