With over four years of experience working with those struggling with addiction, I have built meaningful connections with many to help guide and support them through the most daunting obstacles in their lives.
As part of the Couples Therapy Centre team, I work with compassion and positivity. I recognize that each couple has the potential to succeed and thrive, and I am committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment for each to explore and strengthen their relationship. I specialize in helping others to have healthy communication within their relationships, building upon skills surrounding active listening that allow for breaking the negative cycle through an Emotionally Focused lens. It’s a privilege to guide individuals toward deeper connections, and I am grateful for the opportunity to provide a space for growth and fulfillment.

Compassion guides my use of the Gott man Method for couples counselling and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
Adults finding ADHD symptoms are impairing their personal relationships and/or professional role may need new coping strategies. Compassion and curiosity guide my support of young adults (& teens 15 or older) with ADHD, whose impulsivity or poor organizational skills often burdens them with guilt and low self-esteem. If a mood disorder or anxiety is interfering with thriving in your workplace role, together we will develop self-soothing practices for your emotional regulation and occupational success. To nurture clients' bounce-back from trauma or help couples stuck in conflict, I draw upon my clinical training and lived experience.

Whether or not you identify with having experienced trauma, neglect, or abuse, the effect that our environment has on us can impact our feelings of safety and self-worth, showing up as anxiety, panic, fear, anger, depression, and countless other physical and mental responses.

I believe that clients deserve to be heard and understood as individuals, and that treatment should be flexibly tailored to meet their needs and goals. Rather than adopting a “one size fits all” approach to therapy, clients who choose to work with me will find that I create a highly collaborative therapeutic environment where they can learn customized strategies for addressing life's challenges, promoting personal growth, and enhancing well-being. I enjoy working with adults, couples and adolescents looking for guidance and support with their goals.

I am a Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist (RP) . Gestalt is the Ger man word for "whole." I work with each of my clients as a whole-being (mind, body and soul) using a self-directed, in-the-moment approach to psychotherapy (in many cases fewer sessions are necessary). I help my clients through guided dialogue, observation and intuition in order for them become aware of their behaviors that are keeping them stuck in negative patterns. The best client / therapist sessions happen when my clients are willing to do their personal work. It is life changing!

Are you a young person or adult looking to talk to someone about how you have been feeling? Sometimes accessing therapy can be scary to have to face uncomfortable conversations! Especially when we have to talk about some of the icky feelings and emotions we have been managing over time. I am open-minded and understand young people's experiences due to possible self-esteem challenges, peer pressure, identity concerns, and family conflict.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
