Sunshine Coast Health Centre is a private, licensed, residential addiction treatment facility for men. While other programs focus on abstinence or reducing harm, we believe that the recovery process needs to move beyond mere healing. Instead, we help our clients experience personal transformation and full integration into society. Our programs are based largely on the theory and practice of Meaning-Centered Therapy (MCT), developed by psychologist Dr. Paul T. P. Wong. Dr. Wong was heavily influenced by Viktor Frankl and used personal meaning as a way to organize different therapies such as existential psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, and positive psychology into a unified therapeutic approach. We treat the four elements of what it means to be a human being - the physical, psychological, social and spiritual. Our residential alcohol & drug rehabilitation program follows a daily schedule of activities that focuses on long-term wellness and success. Combined, our 30-, 42-, 60-, and 90-day programs accept a maximum of 47 clients, allowing you to be on a first-name basis with staff and peers.

The Canadian Treatment Centre for Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (CTCOCD, www.ctcocd.ca) is the national specialized treatment center for OCD and related disorders throughout the lifespan: children, adolescents, and adults. CTCOCD programs are tailored for persons whose symptoms and related difficulties range from very mild and newly developed to very severe and longstanding. Treatment is offered to Canadians from all provinces and regions and to international residents. Highly specialized CTCOCD services to optimize recovery involve office based sessions for most persons. Intensive treatment programs with a team of experts are available for local and out of town patients who need this service (i.e., prolonged sessions several times weekly or daily). Home visits are offered to help where symptoms occur. Therapist assisted home based specialty treatments may be offered as an effective alternative to hospitalization for very severe symptoms. Strategies for generalization of change, resilience, skills, and self-esteem as well as relapse prevention are integral. Phone or skype sessions are possible for individuals in remote regions who cannot access specialized care. Psychiatric and pharmacological consultation and treatment are available if needed with experienced staff psychiatrists affiliated with the CTCOCD. Treatment is not time-limited and services are bilingual.

Our 5-week residential Traumatic Stress Recovery Program (TSRP), followed by 6 weeks of Post-Treatment Support, is a customized program for individuals who have experienced trauma or who suffer from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Every person experiences trauma differently. A family member ( i.e. spouse, sister/ brother can join the program in a week 1 and week 2). Our highly-trained clinical team can help you understand PTSD and its comorbid conditions, and provide support tailored to your experience and symptoms. Clients participate in individual and group therapy, cardiovascular activities, yoga and mindfulness, nutrition coaching, psycho-educational sessions, and more. For those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, or work-related trauma, a stable treatment program can make the difference between recovery and relapse. But putting your family and career on hold to receive inpatient treatment is a disruption many people aren’t able to make. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) provide effective treatment for substance addictions, mental illness, and trauma/PTSD. Offered online across Canada and in-person at select locations, the 8-week intensive program offers 9 hours per week of group and individual therapy sessions, followed by 10 months of Aftercare sessions to support ongoing recovery. These evidence-based programs use proven therapeutic techniques and psychoeducation to help patients learn the tools and skills they need to achieve long-term recovery. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Behavioural Activation Therapy (BA).
