A warm, relational approach is the foundation of my work with children, young people and their parents. As an Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, I aim to enable each person to communicate and feel understood from the depth of their experience. This means finding each person's unique ways of expressing themselves, and tailoring my technique to meet them "where they're at". I create a safe space so that children and young people are able to bring their most painful feelings and thoughts out into the room with me. At the same time, humour and fun are important elements of my work.
My work is guided by relation psychoanalysis, underpinned by research into child development and neuroscience. An attuned therapeutic relationship is therefore key, and the communication through our conscious and unconscious relationship is enhanced by the use of the sandtray and creative mediums, which safely embody inner experience through metaphor.
I have worked in a professional capacity with children, adolescents and their parents/carers for over 20yrs. I realise it can be very daunting for a child to start therapy, and for a parent seeking help too. It's essential that you find a good "fit", and you may like to meet with two or three therapists before you and your child decide on one. Good luck!
