Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was originally developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and it is now recognized as the gold standard psychological treatment for this population. In addition, research has shown that it is effective in treating a wide range of other disorders such as substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. DBT consists of four core components: Interpersonal Effectiveness, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation.

Our work together involves tending to the root of imbalance, alchemizing pain into medicine, and re-orienting artistic creation and mothers as the center of life. As a relational, intuitive, and earth-centered practitioner, I believe reality can be imagined, gestated, and birthed anew. We can meet in my office in Portland, our local forests, or virtually. May we remember healing is belonging within the village of our hearts, our communities, and our planet.

Mixed gender on-ongoing interpersonal process group. Group is in a forming stage right now and will likely start in early 2025. Group will be weekly and in person. The goal of the group is to work on broadening our range of thoughts and feelings that we are able to feel and express in relationship. The greater the range of accessible emotions and our ability to verbalize them in healthy ways translates directly to the fullness of one's relationships and life. Through this process we can cultivate greater understanding of both self and other.

teens are the heart of my work at deep space. the teen experience can be overwhelming, confusing, and exciting all at the same time. both their internal and external climate is chock-full of newness, opportunities for growth, as well as potential pitfalls they can unintentionally fall into. they want guidance from a trusted adult outside of their circles who sees them accurately, speaks their language, and takes them on a journey of self-discovery to arm them for the real world. my rough-around-the-edges, direct approach seems to be well received by the teens i have/had the privilege of working with.

Typically my clients reach out to me because of feelings of sadness, worry, and disconnection in important relationships. My clients are often people who describe themselves as being “do-ers”, goal oriented people who have difficulty slowing down to understand their internal world and why they do what they do. Many of my clients are medical professionals, first responders, and veterans who have worked hard to train themselves to manage their emotional reactions because of the need to focus and perform in their work setting.

Everyone goes through challenges situations in life and while you my have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it, in fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, marital/relational difficulties and are committed to making long lasting changes in your life by acquiring the long-lasting benefits and tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome those challenges-take the first step.

Currently I have only one opening, specifically for someone interested in IFS. I will edit this profile when that changes. I especially enjoy working with individuals who have experienced "outsider status" and are on a journey to create a sense of belonging in their own way and style. Many of my patients are creatives who experience hindrances in connecting with their creative energies and seek ways to more fully nourish and honor these aspects of Self.

Helping you to live a life that you value is my goal. Often in life we end up offtrack. We pay too much attention to things that don't truly matter to us... our fears, our pain, our sorrow. By themselves there is nothing wrong with them, but when they become prevailing forces in our lives, it leads to suffering. Too often we believe that we are the problem, when in truth, the problem is the problem. I believe that we can help you find your way. You can live a life where you have created your own meaning.

We'll be working out of the book “In Love with the World” by Mingyur Rinpoche. The book describes Rinpoche's adventures after leaving his monastery in 2011 and also profound applications of the Buddha’s teachings - including the Tibetan bardo teachings. The group will be a beautiful opportunity to encounter these teachings and to discuss how they are directly applicable to all of our lives. Each group will include a period of meditation, a discussion of one or more chapters of the book, an inquiry into the teachings and then guidance about practicing them in our daily lives.

You may have worked your issues for a few years, or 10 or more: you’ve started to heal the childhood trauma and you’re experiencing a pretty good sense of stability in your life. But you’re ready for another round of work. Some things are pulling at you or prodding you and you’d like to get some guidance in taking the next step towards waking up in your deeper parts. Perhaps you’d like support in stepping out of the culture of blame that is so rampant right now. Maybe you’d like some help in bringing more kindness and generosity into your relationships and the world. You are wanting to be doing more of what you took birth to do.

Current research shows its usefulness in our lives by alleviating stress, anxiety, fear, and thinking patterns that are critical and judging. Mindfulness In Everyday Life is an ongoing group that cultivates mindfulness practice in our daily lives to enliven our relationships with ourselves and others and bring a sense of joy and peacefulness in times of stress, anxiety and fear. I trust that whatever appears in the mind, body, and emotions has its purpose and wants to be deeply heard, honored, understood, and embraced; that all the Psyche expresses are attempts toward our wholeness and realizing the jewel of our Essential Being. With this compassion and care, healing can unfold, patterns and beliefs transformed, and we can live our true potential and purpose, innate wisdom, and experience happiness, peace, and joy.
