There must be a better way! You’re feeling so overwhelmed that you’re wondering if you can keep doing this day after day. At this point, the feelings of anxiety from handling stress, finding balance, recognizing a sense of self, and setting boundaries are overwhelming. The culmination of your feelings begins to lead you to question your abilities and stir up the belief that something has to change because there must be a better way!

When a relationship is strained, it can seem like there is no way to make things better. Fortunately, there is hope. Relationships can be healed. Are you ready to deepen or salvage an intimate relationship? Do you want to form a more meaningful bond with your child/teen? Are you interested in exploring your own identity? Then we might be a good match for therapy. I believe authenticity is the key to living and loving in healthful ways. Since my style is both relational and systemic, I will be genuine in our sessions and invite you to be authentic too.

I believe we are inherently motivated to be our most optimal selves, so we seek opportunities that foster healing and growth. As a psychologist and life coach, I am most helpful when I support my clients in uncovering critical insights and gaining clarity around how limiting beliefs prevent them from creating a fulfilling life as their best selves. In my work with clients, I encourage and support them in strengthening their own sense of internal power as they make life choices that are more accurately aligned with who they believe they are and what they most value in their lives.

Life can look perfect on the outside, yet many of us struggle with feelings of unease. You might have visited a doctor and been told, “Everything looks fine,” but deep down, you sense something isn’t right. Even with 8–10 hours of sleep, you may still feel drained, lacking the motivation to engage in daily activities. What you truly long for is joy, peace, and excitement about life.

Sometimes, to help the symptoms, you must first heal the trauma. Let's first de-mystify the word "trauma." Trauma is not any specific event but rather how our bodies and minds process the event/s. If you have tried to get help for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, negative body image, relationship issues, etc but still find yourself struggling, it's quite possible trauma might be at the root of your concerns. Most of my clients come to me after struggling to heal on their own, or with other forms of support, but still find themselves hurting. The reality is, there is hope for better.

What are clients looking for in a therapist? Providing an empathetic ear, human connection, understanding, and acceptance without condition is a good start. Life can be challenging, demanding, and overwhelming at times. Without established goals and direction, life can seem unbearable. This may be you. Why not take that step to have your needs met?

Hello, I'm Lizzie Hoff. I'm excited to meet you and learn more about you while we start your therapy work together! I really enjoy working with folks of all ages who are interested in understanding not just their symptoms and how to manage them, but also in getting to the root cause(s) and working to address that, as well. I connect especially well with highly sensitive people (HSPs); folks who struggle with anxiety and/or depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and boundary-setting; and individuals who simply want or need someone to accompany them down the road to healing and wellness.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
