As a strengths-oriented counselor, my emphasis is helping people recognize their strengths and areas for growth. For kids, teens, young adults, parents and caregivers, this often means working together to identify barriers, develop an understanding of their diagnosis, and practice skills to overcome or manage symptoms. It also means teaching about rights and self-advocacy in a school or job. With teens and adults some common goals are developing healthy coping skills, effective time management strategies, and self-care practices to reduce stress and improve your overall well-being.
My approach is always guided by the client and their needs. This could be CBT, mindfulness, or creative arts. I am passionate about the power of play as a tool to build trust, learn socialization skills, learn emotion regulation skills, increase problem solving, improve communication skills, and most importantly, increase self-esteem.
Becoming a professional counselor was not my first career path. I began as a classroom teacher, but I quickly grew frustrated in my limited capacity to help children and families with challenges faced outside the classroom. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in healing and growing into the person you aspire to become.
