My background in journalism has informed my approach to therapy to be psychodynamic, narrative, and person-centered.

As an Asian-American gay man who grew up in the US South, I knew from a young age that I lived in a world that did not offer me freedom to author my narrative. Thus, I am passionate about building critical consciousness, self-awareness, and self-confidence to counteract oppression and live in the world with empowerment and authenticity. I am privileged and honored to use my experience to heal any client who has ever felt marginalized, outcasted, or misunderstood simply for "not fitting into boxes." If you are ready to live for yourself rather than for the limiting expectations of society, then I am looking forward to collaborating.

During my college years, I struggled with depression and anxiety but found help through therapy. This experience ignited my passion for helping others facing similar challenges. My approach to treating OCD is warm, inquisitive, and open-minded. I strive to understand you where you are and connect with you authentically and empathically. We are a group of queer, trans & non-binary, neurodivergent therapists who aim to serve our community. We provide accessible mental health care for folks from historically marginalized and oppressed communities. We work with children, adolescents, adults, couples/polycules, families, and groups. We specialize in gender, sexuality, kink, BDSM, non-monogamy, sex work, neurodivergence, trauma, mood disorders, racial identity, and intersectionality.

I have been working in the social work field since 1984. About 25 years ago, I started my full time private practice, and can still say that I love what I do. 30 years working with people provides me with a wealth of knowledge. Laurie Quackenbush is a New York State licensed mental health counselor who graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a degree in psychological counseling. Mrs. Quackenbush treats children, adolescents, and adults in a supportive environment. She specializes in the use of play therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques to address a variety of mental health struggles including anxiety, depression, attention difficulties, spectrum disorders, deviance/behavioral problems, school issues, and divorce.

My treatment of children, adolescents and family members reflects over twenty years of experience serving in residential treatment centers, an expertise in the area of Forensic Social Work, working in congregate community programs, and effective management of Preventive Programs. I am licensed to practice as a Clinical Social Worker in New York State and possess a Post Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. My professional service also reflect an eclectic mix of my West Indian heritage, US education and training, and strong family ties.

Brickell Quarles, Ph.D is a licensed Psychologist who holds Masters Degrees in Psychology, Theology and Biology, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Quarles worked as part of the Clinical Team at Rikers Island Correctional Facility at the Robert N. Davoren Center (RNDC) for 17 years as the Associate Director of Mental Health. She opened the Harlem-based mental health clinic, Phoenix Psychological Services, PC in 2017. The clinic services adults, children and families suffering from a variety of mental health issues, and is staffed by culturally competent providers dedicated to meeting each patient’s mental health needs.
