I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 2010 and am experienced in helping clients to manage and overcome a variety of challenges.
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to change, and if you're not there yet, we can work on your motivation. Whether it's an alcohol or other drug problem. or difficulties with emotions/moods, trauma, stress management, or interpersonal/relationship problems, there is almost nothing within you now that you can't change or improve if you really want to do it. I find it rewarding to work with clients who understand that change requires some work and they are willing to do that work. I am also experienced with those struggling with chronic Lyme Disease.

I am unable to take more clients at this time. This page will be updated if this changes in the future. As a therapist, my practice focuses on mindfully helping people find and create purposeful pathways towards healing. I use well-known methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I mix them with a layered and nuanced appreciation for the hu man endeavor. In life, we often absorb and integrate difficult experiences, which in turn can lead to great suffering. I will work to empower you to write your own story with fresh ink sourced from new understandings.

I offer telehealth (Zoom) sessions only. Many counseling approaches help people feel better, but "feeling better" may not be enough. I assist individuals in getting to the root cause of their issues, and change self defeating patterns that previously appeared to be deeply entrenched. Having over 43 years of experience allows me to gear my approach to healing based on each individual's needs (including mind/body/energy techniques) in a safe, comfortable atmosphere where exploration and change is made easier.

I can also work with adults, especially within the ages of 18 to 30; however, most of my work has been with people under the age of 18. While I started my career as a case manager for runaway and homeless youth, I began my first clinical position as a Functional Family Therapist (FFT).

My therapeutic approach is eclectic and is rooted in hu manistic psychology, which means that I prioritize your needs, experiences, goals, and personal growth throughout our sessions.
Everyone comes from a different path of life. At times, our journeys can be overwhelming and can leave us feeling anxious and depressed. They can add up to us feeling isolated, like support is a distant option. As a hu man being, I don’t believe that people should feel alone or struggle alone. Along with that, I feel called to be an advocate for mental health and overall wellness. I specialize in providing support and guidance to those who are navigating the challenges of anxiety, depression, and life changes. With a deep commitment to empowering my clients, I offer a safe and nonjudgmental space for healing and growth.

There are many challenges and obstacles to reaching out for therapy, but every journey begins with that first step.
Are you someone going through the journey of life and feel something isn't aligning correctly to your desired path? You sit there with your thoughts and keep coming back to that unexplored aspect of yourself that keeps impeding your own personal progress. You've tried several different things to try to improve your situation, but your efforts continue to fail no matter what you try. Regardless of your situation, therapy has either been something you've considered or tried in the past and want to jump back in. If this resonates with you, know you are not alone and I hope to help!

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
