Although feeling anxious is a natural response to stress, sometimes it can become so intense it effects your daily life. Often times depression can accompany anxiety becoming debilitating where you can no longer think clearly or enjoy the things you once did. Together we can dig to the root of these feelings, and begin to use tools and strategies to bring your stress levels down and regain control. Along with specializing in anxiety and depression, I also focus on how the two can be detrimental to relationships.

My clinical experience as a psychologist includes addressing issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety and OCD, disordered eating, emotional difficulties, mood disorders, and personality disorders. I strongly believe that empowering my clients through learning skills to address these problems is the key to successful therapy. I also incorporate your personal values into skill building to emphasize the importance of living a value-driven life. Change is possible, suffering does not have to last forever, and it is possible to get fulfillment out of life, regardless of the circumstances.

It's like you're constantly battling to keep up with daily routines while juggling inattention, compulsions, and overwhelming worry. This has made school or work feel nearly impossible and put a strain on your relationships. Managing your emotions has been especially challenging, often leading to increased stress and depression. You sense it in your body and in your innermost thoughts. It’s been an uphill battle trying to handle all of this on your own. It's hard to know where to start, and you feel stuck.

I offer individual counseling. Being human means that life is going to be difficult sometimes. We may need to explore different avenues for change. Current struggles may be due to a major life transition like a job loss, becoming a parent, a death in the family, or a new relationship, or they may be due to current unhealthy dynamics in existing relationships. Sometimes unresolved trauma is at play. Sometimes we just get "stuck in a rut" and can't seem to make any positive changes that would enable us to go in a different direction. Depression and anxiety can be our body's way of telling us that it is time for change.

Your heart is aching. The past few months have felt like one crushing defeat after another, but this recent loss has taken the pain to a whole new level. The depths of it are becoming deeper and more concerning than you ever imagined. You try so hard to be that "glass-half-full" kind of thinker, but your mind just doesn't seem capable. It just stays parked in defeat, no matter how often you try to talk yourself out of it. Will life ever feel normal or happy again? You now understand grief in ways you never wish you did, yet have no idea what to do now that you are here.

No one ever told you parenting would be this hard. You love your child, yet the constant battle to keep them content and squash their tantrums feels like an energy drain from which you can’t recoup. You’ve tried everything-redirecting, timeouts, and positive redirection, only to find you are losing your temper more than you care to admit because nothing works. You are in a never-ending cycle of chaos. You realize your stomach turns every time the phone rings in case the school calls again to report another incident. You wish you could just escape, but you can’t tell anyone because you fear you’ll be judged for being a bad parent.

You’ve spent years working harder, performing better, and aiming higher, only to be met with disappointment and a pervasive sense of emptiness inside. You’ve struggled to find your life purpose with no answer in sight. It’s as if you’re trapped in a never-ending cycle of hopelessness and despair. The frustration and confusion from the lack of clarity have made you feel emotionally bankrupt and have made success feel even more distant. The harder you try to overcome these feelings by setting new goals, the less clear things become. This only perpetuates the cycle of despair and worsens your sense of hopelessness

I’ve been in the counseling field for nearly 30 years and continue to feel passionate about helping each person, family or couple. As a faith-based therapist I integrate my clinical experience & training with biblical beliefs in my treatment approach. Healthy relationships are vital to living a satisfying and fulfilling life. The first step in healing is self-awareness. Understanding your emotions and thoughts can guide you in establishing healthy boundaries. Second, grasping the body-mind connection is vital to the transformation process. Lastly, identifying your attachment style can improve your friendships, marriage and family.

I love being a counselor and a teacher. I like helping people figure out what they want from their life and how to make the changes and tap into the resources to make that happen. To learn how to create balance in every area. One of my favorite expressions is people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. The reason I became a counselor is to help make a difference one person at a time.

I believe in the philosophy of Resilience; a trait we are not born with but all have the ability to develop. In addition to processing past and present issues; I also focus on building coping skills and strategies to maintain wellness: "Life doesn't get easier we become more resilient. Each choice and challenge increases our knowledge and strength".

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
