Trying to heal can be a lonely and hidden journey. Why open up if you will be judged or condemned? Seventeen years ago, I met a therapist who didn’t judge, and I knew he genuinely cared. I felt it! His genuine compassion, despite my flaws, made me realize healing is possible! From that point on, healing became my passion; it felt contagious. Helping others feel safe, heard, understood, and non-judged. Caused me to change my business career after getting my MBA, to get a 2nd Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy.

And many clients who work with me often choose to use video games & VR as therapeutic tools in their treatment to do the deeper level work.
Do you feel stagnant and like you are always worried about something? Do you feel overwhelmed, lost, or hopeless when you think about what others expect of you or about the future? Have you tried talk therapy before and maybe it felt good to vent, but it just didn't help the way you needed? I help teens and young adults explore their inner worlds to identify what needs to be healed and what actions they can take to feel less anxious and disconnected, and more confident, accomplished, recognized, and happier in their relationships. You aren't alone. You deserve happiness. And you can achieve this.

You are not alone, many struggle with similar challenges you're facing and we have helped them start to accomplish their own goals and dreams.
Focusing on helping you feel safe and understood, while also pushing you to view aspects of life in different ways. We firmly believe that the most growth occurs when you step outside of your comfort zones just enough to discover who you truly are. We believe that life is for laughing, and we do not underestimate the power that humor has in the therapy room. Combining empathy with humor is to create a space where you can tap into your own strengths for change.

Life is difficult sometimes and can feel overwhelming, lonely, or sad. I have felt that way as well during parts of my life. It’s difficult not to have the complexities of our lives take a toll on our mental health. Grief, loss, addiction, and trauma are all part of my story. However, the stories we believe to be true of ourselves and others are capable of being rewritten. The important factor is identifying through discovery and support of how YOU are the author.Therapy isn't as much learning skills to overcome mental health issues as it is unlearning carried shame, guilt, and negative beliefs to become an emboldened you.

Are you struggling to evict the ex who's living rent-free in your brain? Or is there so much conflict and miscommunication in your marriage that you wonder how you'll ever stay together? When your most significant relationships are in crisis, it leaves you feeling uncertain and deeply anxious about the future. Sleepless nights and emotional turmoil have you on edge, wondering how you'll ever make it through if "just one more thing" happens. As a therapist with 25 years of experience, I understand the toll that relationship distress and conflict can take on your mental and physical health.

You made a mistake this morning. It was small, but you can’t get it out of your head. You keep thinking about it. You feel like your thoughts are a runaway train and you can’t stop them. You try to consider what you could have done differently, and yet it’s in the past. You start to question other choices you’ve made. Are you making the right call? Doubt creeps in. You find it hard to concentrate on your family or partner, your job, or schoolwork. Your mind hurts, your stomach hurts, your body hurts. You feel exhausted; it's only been an hour.

Sometimes, life is unpredictable. Before we know it, we can end up in a hole that appears too big to climb out of. This is particularly the case with our traumatic experiences. Whether it is big or little, traumatic experiences carry with us throughout our lives, creating lasting impressions on who we are and what we are capable of. Luckily, we have developed ways to overcome and climb out of the hole.

Gay and lesbian people face difficult intersections between sexual diversity; trauma; religion, faith and spirituality; and conflicting cultural and relational de mands. Stress, hypervigilance, shame, anxiety, depression and mental confusion are very common among the people I see. But you have an amazing ability to heal, grow, and thrive if given the right support.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
