This series is supported through philanthropic grants to The Guardian Civic Journalism Trust by a number of different organisations, led by the ACME Foundation

This series is supported through philanthropic grants to The Guardian Civic Journalism Trust* by a number of different organisations, led by the ACME Foundation, a private ancillary fund that primarily supports organisations working to protect nature and ensure a liveable climate.

Other contributors to the funding of this series include the Koshland Innovation Fund and the Anna Rose & Simon Sheikh Fund, at Australian Communities Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic foundation; the Doc Ross Family Foundation; the Andrew and Renata Kaldor Family Foundation; the Knights Family Jabula Foundation; Sue Mathews and Mark Burford; and The Russell Mills Foundation.

The Australia versus the climate series will focus on the country’s role in the climate crisis over the past two decades. Ahead of the Cop26 climate summit in Glasgow in November, the series will look at the political squabbling, policy failures, leadership coups, climate scepticism and poor planning that has characterised the debate around global heating. This will include asking how Australia got here, what’s gone wrong, and what can be done to change course.

All of the reporting is editorially independent and follows Guardian News & Media’s published editorial code. You can read more about content funding on the Guardian here.

*The Guardian Civic Journalism Trust is a partnership between the news organisation and the Centre for Advancing Journalism in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.
