Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a parliamentary constituency comprising of 1 assembly segment. It is a general constituency. It goes to the polls on April 19, 2024. Kuldeep Rai Sharma from INC won the parliamentary elections here in 2019 with a winning margin of 0.68%, defeating Vishal Jolly from the BJP. INC and BJP polled vote shares of 45.98% and 45.3% respectively. In 2009 and 2014, the constituency was won by the BJP candidate Bishnu Pada Ray. The voter turnout in 2019 , 2014 and 2009 was 65.12% , 70.66 % and 64.16% respectively. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located in the Indian Ocean, towards the far end of the Bay of Bengal. They comprise around 836 islands and islets, of which 31 are occupied. The capital, Port Blair, lies in the Andaman group of Islands, as does the Cellular Jail where Veer Savarkar was famously imprisoned. The nature-rich islands host vulnerable tribal populations, including the Great Andamenese, Onge, Jarawas and Sentinelese. The Sentinelese, resident on North Sentinental Island, have no contact with outside communities, and are a hostile tribe of which little else is known.
