Bengaluru North is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka, India. It comprises eight legislative assembly segments. The seat was considered a Congress bastion as it won all polls till 1999, except in 1996. After the 2008 delimitation exercise, it has come to be known as a Vokkaliga stronghold, with all MPs from 2009 hailing from the community. Once dismissed as a suburban, industrial or agricultural belt, the segment is rapidly emerging as the new commercial centre of Bengaluru city, attracting numerous research and development, aerospace, automobiles, and pharmaceutical companies to establish their operations in the area. The construction of the airport at Devanahalli in 2008 has also been instrumental in triggering growth here.
