Hassan Lok Sabha Constituency

Hassan is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka, India. It comprises eight legislative assembly segments, and is one among the three seats where the BJP-JD(S) is in alliance. Incumbent MP and grandson of H.D. Deve Gowda, Prajwal Revanna - who is absconding amid investigations into allegations of a massive sexual assault case - is seeking re-election as the NDA candidate. The region is a JD(S) stronghold but the sex scandal may dent the embarrassed regional party's prospects this elections. Man-animal conflict is a major issue in the region. Hassan gets its name from the famous Hasanamba Temple, whose doors are opened only once a year during the annual Jatra. The constituency is notable for Hoysala architecture and sculpture, the best specimens of which are at Belur and Halebidu. It is also studded with centres of Jain pilgrimage, like Shravanabelagola.
