The Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti has announced a candidate in this seat. Since the 1950s, MES has been seeking merger of all Marathi-speaking areas in Karnataka, which includes Khanapur, one of eight Assembly seats in this constituency. The constituency is home to several tribal communities, including Sidhi, Kunabi, Halakki Vokkaliga, Gonda and Gouli.
