Mumbai North is one of the 48 parliamentary seats in the State of Maharashtra, India. The parliamentary seat comprises six Assembly seats in the Mumbai Suburban district. Situated in the Konkan division, the district is one of the largest districts in the country in terms of population. Different political parties have won the seat at different times over the years, but the BJP has been a dominant force since 1989. The seat was with the Congress between 2004 and 2014. BJP leader Gopal Shetty wrested power from the Congress in 2014 after he defeated party candidate Urmila Matondkar. He has since held the Lok Sabha seat.
