DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Tuesday that though the BJP launched a psychological onslaught two days ago in the name of exit polls, it was reduced to a position wherein it was not able to win a simple majority to form the government.

Talking to journalists, he said the BJP’s money power, misuse of power, and control of media failed to help the party in the election. “It is a massive and historic victory for the DMK-led alliance. The BJP’s plan to change the Constitution and its hate campaign failed to cut ice with people. There is a strong wave against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tamil Nadu and many other States,” he said.

He said the DMK would take forward the steps needed to protect the Indian Constitution and democracy after the full results were declared. He will visit New Delhi on Wednesday to take part at the INDIA bloc meeting.

Asked whether he would be projected as the prime ministerial candidate (should there be a possibility) since the DMK had scored a massive victory in the State, he recalled the words of his father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi: “I know my height.”

Mr. Stalin said that though the BJP sought to create an impression that it could win 400 seats and claimed that it had no enemies, it could not win enough seats to form the government on its own.

The Chief Minister said that despite Mr. Modi’s many visits, the BJP could not gain anything politically, because people knew that his praise of The Tirukkural  was fake since he spoke against the Tamil in Odisha.

In Tamil Nadu, the cohesiveness and unity of the allies helped the DMK-led alliance sweep the election for the second time. The alliance also won in the 2021 Assembly election.

The Congress benefitted more from the alliance as it won in all the 10 constituencies it contested. Its candidate and former IAS officer N. Sasikanth won in Tiruvallur by a margin of around six lakh votes.

Contrary to the claims that BJP leader K. Annamani in Coimbatore, BJP Legislature Party leader Nainar Nagendran in Tirunelveli and BJP ally A.C. Shanmugam in Vellore could win, they failed to establish any lead over the candidates of the DMK and it allies. Union Minister L. Murugan, who entered the fray in the Nilgiris against A. Raja of the DMK, is also trailing.

Tamizhisai Soundararajan (of the BJP), who resigned as Governor to contest in the election, faced defeat in Chennai South. In the deep south, former Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan, once again, lost to Congress candidate Vijay Vasanth.
