West Bengal election results 2024 highlights: TMC stuns poll pundits, bags 29 seats, BJP wins in 12

The TMC maintained its dominance in West Bengal as CM Mamata Banerjee led her party to a resounding victory in 29 seats out of the total 42 Lok Sabha seats in the State. The BJP fell below their much expected target of 30 and just managed to win 12 seats, Congress won just one seat, according to the EC website.

“BJP has not got the majority..(Narendra) Modi has lost all credibility. He should resign,” says West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Trinamool Congress’ Diamond Harbour candidate Abhishek Banerjee’s lead margin has gone past 7 lakh. BJP’s Abhijit Das (Bobby) is presently second in the race having presently secured 3.3 lakh votes. 

Trinamool Congress continues to expand their lead. At the time of writing, they are leading in 31 seats. BJP, on the other hand, is leading in 11 seats and Congress 1. Among the major surprises in political debutant and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan leading in Baharampur over Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by a margin of over 14,000 votes. TMC’s candidate from Diamond Harbour has already secured a lead margin of over 4.7 lakh. 

BJP has recorded major leads in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. 

Congress’ sole prospect of potential representation in the House of People is coming from Malada Dakshin. 

Having trailed in the early hours, the Krishnanagar candidate of the Trinamool Congress has now expanded her lead margin to over 60,000. Second to her is BJP’s Amrita Roy who has bagged about 2.62 lakh votes. 

TMC candidiate from Diamond Harbour Abhishek Banerjee is leading by over 2.6 lakh votes to his nearest rival Abhijit Das (Bobby). Mr Banerjee is seeking to continue his stay at the Lok Sabha for the third time.

Competing against BJP’s S.S. Alhuwalia, TMC candidate Shatrughan Sinha is leading in the Asansol seat by a margin of over 32,000 votes. This is another reversal from early trends wherein he was seen to be trailing. 

The Mamata Banerjee-spearheaded party is presently leading in 32 seats, including Diamond Harbour, Krishnanagar, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar and Jadavpur. BJP is holding leads in 9 constituencies, including Darjeeling and Bongaon. 

Leader of Opposition in the 17th Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is trailing in his home constituency of Baharampur. TMC candidate and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan is leading in the constituency by a margin of 5,539 votes. 

Trinamool Congress expands their lead to 28 constituencies, including Krishnanagar, wherein they were trailing earlier. Mahua Moitra, the TMC candidiate from Krishnanagar is presently leading by 7,275 votes at the time of writing. Diamond Harbour candidate and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee has expanded his lead margin to over 1.3 lakh votes. 

BJP is leading in 9 seats, including Darjeeling and Medinipur. 

Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Isha Khan Choudhary are leading in Baharampur and Maldaha Dakshin. 

CPI-M candidate Md Salim is leading in Murshidabad with a slender margin of about 2,000 votes. 

Trinamool Congress presently finds itself leading in 24 constituencies. Popular faces Abhishek Banerjee, Sayani Ghosh, Mala Roy, Sudip Bandopadhyay, Kirti Azad, Satabdi Roy, Pratima Mondol, Arup Chakroborty and Kakoli Dastidar Ghosh are all leading in their respective constituencies. On the other hand, BJP is holding leads in 9 constituencies, including Darjeeling, Asansol and Jalpaiguri. 

Congress is leading in Behrampur (represented by leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury) and Jangipur. 

Trinamool Congress MP from Krishnanagar Mahua Moitra is trailing by a margin of 5,436 votes in early trends from the constituency. Ms Moitra is trailing to BJP candidiate ‘Rajmata’ Amrita Roy. 

TMC stalwart Abhishek Banerjee was leading his nearest rival Abhijit Das (Bobby) by a margin of 32,508 votes. Mr Banerjee is eyeing a third consecutive opportunity to represent his constituency in the country’s House of the People. 

Trinamool Congress is leading in 16 seats, including that of Abhishek Banerjee who is presently holding on to a lead of over 32,000 votes. BJP is ahead in Maldaha Uttar and Asansol whilst Congress finds itself leading in Maldaha Dakshin. 

The All-India Trinamool Congress finds itself ahead in 5 seats, namely, Coochbehar, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Bishnupur and Bolpur. Retaining the early leads, BJP finds itself ahead in Malda Dakshin and Asansol with Congress ahead in Maldaha Uttar.
