September saw central banks cut interest rates around the world with the SARB reducing the Repo Rate by 0.25% whilst the US Fed cut 0.5%. This helped propel the S&P 500 to new all-time highs, driven by strong performance in defensive sectors like consumer discretionary and utilities. The CSI 300 surged by 19%, boosted by broad Chinese government stimulus measures designed to revive the economy and support investor confidence.
