Last Thursday, I attended the final day of the Board Mastery Programme by A Seat at the Table ZA, facilitated by Mam' Tryphosa Ramano.   This programme was insightful—not just in its theoretical aspects but also through real-world case studies, role-playing exercises as well as mam' Tryphosa Ramano's own lived experiences and how it plays out in practice. This programme provided a deeper understanding of corporate governance and helped us reflect on how we, as board members, could navigate decision-making differently.   We were also privileged to learn from industry experts: 🔹 Rubeena Solomon on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) 🔹 Cynthia Schoeman on Ethical Leadership & Ethical Culture   Key takeaways included amongst others: ✔️ The roles & responsibilities of the Board ✔️ The Companies Act ✔️ King IV principles ✔️ Risk Management A mentor once told me that if I want to influence decisions, I should consider serving on boards—because that’s one way to have A Seat at the Table (see what I did there 😊) where key decisions are made. However, I always wondered what that truly meant in practice. This programme has been instrumental in helping me gain a deeper understanding of what it really means to be a board member.   Another lesson that resonated deeply with me was an exercise where we introduced ourselves —not by who we are, but by what we do. This shifted my perspective and made me reflect on how often we define ourselves by our titles rather than the person behind those titles. Yet, it is who we are that shapes how we show up in the world and drives the work we do. This lesson will stay with me and I will carry it forward. #boardleadership #corporategoverance #ethicalleadership

I am excited to announce that I have completed the A Seat at the Table ZA - Connect Board Mastery program (class of 2025, Cohort 1), facilitated by the amazing Tryphosa Ramano . This program enhanced our understanding of Corporate Governance, King IV, ESG, and Risk Management, while also incorporating real-world examples and case studies from guest speakers Solomon and Cynthia Schoeman. Women from various industries came together to learn and network with one another. Day 3, held at GIBS Business School, was particularly outstanding. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and for selfless leaders like Tryphosa Ramano, who generously shared her insights with us.

Cultivating a culture of #EthicalLeadership I had the honour of being part of the first cohort on board mastery offered by A Seat at the Table ZA facilitated by mam Tryphosa Ramano over three days, taking us through the #CompaniesAct, and the role played by various committees of the board amongst others. We were honored to also hear from industry experts, Rubeena Solomon and Cynthia Schoeman who shared their expertise on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and ethical leadership. The training comprised of: -Corporate governance -Fiduciary responsibilities of directors -Legal implications -Risk management -Director roles in advancing ESG This training came in handy as it augmented my skills as a director. I particularly enjoyed the interactive nature of the training delving into the various ethical breaches of many organisations and asking the questions how we could have handled the breaches differently had we been part of the boards. #Values are very important, they will always inform the decision we make at work and life in general. If you see something, ask questions and when you do not understand #empower yourself with knowledge/facts. Congratulations to A Seat at the Table ZA you are planting in the lives of many South Africans & are contributing to #Corporate #Governance in our country.

  • Today on CONNECT Breakfast, we’re talking about being intentional with your goals and taking action! It’s easy to get stuck in the cycle of planning, overthinking, or waiting for the ‘right time.’ But the truth is, action creates momentum. Every small step forward brings you closer to your dreams. Be clear about what you want, set a plan, and most importantly—start! Progress isn’t about perfection; it’s about consistency. #Connect #Engage #Inspire
