I recently had the pleasure of hosting security executives and CISO’s from across the South African #mining and #energy industries at our Innovation Hub in Johannesburg. It was an engaging conversation on the #cybersecurity challenges facing the industry especially given the advent of IT/OT convergence, #cloud and #GenAI. Our local clients also participated in the quarterly Global Mining CISO Roundtable that included Accenture offices in the UK, Australia, and the Americas. Thanks to everyone who supported the event, especially our keynote speaker Rohit Duggal and our local security, technology and industry gurus: Caroli Kolver, Radha Kasan Devchand, Deepak Belur, Mogisen Iyer, Boland Lithebe, Henk K., Mohammed Suliman, Brian Esterhuysen, Sifiso Gumbi, Molebogeng Zulu, Bodie Crossingham, Lizé Nell, Imran Patel, Etienne Steyn, Jaco Du Plooy, Kgomotso Lebele, Nishal Nair, Satish Nrusimhadevara, Teia Tacconi Accenture in South Africa Accenture UK & Ireland Giovanni Cozzolino

One of the questions I get asked most about Electric Vehicles is “But can I drive from Joburg to Cape Town in an EV?" Well... in just under a weeks’ time we are going to answer that question. As a lead-up to the naamsa | The Automotive Business Council #SAAutoWeek Conference, a fellowship of intrepid movers and shakers within SA's mobility and energy industries will set off on an EV Road Trip adventure on Thursday 10 October to drive a convoy of five EVs from Johannesburg to Cape Town… VIA GQEBERHA! Over 4 days we will cover nearly 2200kms, including what will likely be the first drive over the Swartberg pass in a convoy of electric vehicles. We will test the state of SA’s current EV charging capabilities and the real-world ranges of a #BMWiX #VolvoXC40 #VWID4Pro #MercedesEQ and #BYDSeal to see just how possible it is to drive long distance in SA in an EV. Keep an eye out on the hashtags #SAAutoWeek #NEVRoadTrip #EscapingTheNoise across all social channels over the coming week to follow the action! "We should think about technology as the first step in helping people and not replacing them." These were the closing remarks from Johan Coetzee to wrap-up an insightful panel discussion during Day 2 of #JoburgIndaba. Johan and the panel of esteemed industry experts explored four transformative trends shaping the mining industry's future: 🌐 Demographics: Mining's growth is driven by population growth, impacting resource demand and workforce strategies amidst skills shortages. 🌍 Climate Change & Environmental: Intensifying climate events highlight water's strategic importance, with temperature rise and desertification fueling migration and conflict. 💻 Technology & Innovation: Generative AI is poised to revolutionize mining, enabling rapid mineral discovery, autonomous sites, and precision monitoring through IoT and AI. 🌎 Geo-Politics: Global tensions and elections in 76 countries will significantly influence the mining sector in a period of revolution, not evolution. Essential Capabilities to Thrive: To navigate these trends, mining organizations must cultivate adaptability, technological acumen, sustainability focus, and geopolitical awareness. What capabilities do you believe are crucial for the mining industry's future? Share your thoughts below!
