Why is it taking so long? You’ve reported the problem. You’ve demonstrated the system’s subpar performance. You’ve highlighted its inefficiencies and the potential impact. You’ve even submitted well-reasoned recommendations to your leadership. So why hasn’t a replacement been approved? Why can’t they see what you see? Why not just read the proposal, check the budget, and procure the necessary equipment? It shouldn’t be that hard, right? Well, I present to you a comprehensive answer to these questions—and many more like them. I am truly honored to have successfully completed the SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT course—what my instructor called “The Thinking Man’s Course.” And indeed, it is! This course reinforced my belief that engineers and ATSEPs must move beyond a narrow, technical perspective. It’s time to elevate our thinking—to understand how our work fits into the broader business value chain and the true impact we bring. I call it the “Hawk-Top View, Deep-Sea Operation.” This perspective reveals just how strategic maintenance is. It doesn’t start when a system fails; it begins in planning—evaluating a system’s entire life cycle cost, from procurement and testing to operations, maintenance, and decommissioning. We explored models such as the Bathtub Curve, Parkinson’s Law, and various maintenance strategies (preventive, proactive, reactive). But one insight stood out to me: ANSPs, not just ATSEP departments, are vastly underutilizing the massive data our operational systems generate. These systems produce so much data—data that could drive better decisions. The potential for predictive analytics in maintenance is enormous. Now, does that mean I’m advocating for more investment in data science and analytics? I’ll leave that for you to decide. Finally, i'd like to extend my deepest gratitude: 🙏 To my God and Lord Jesus for life and grace. 🙏 To my leaders at Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA) for this incredible opportunity. 🙏 To the ATNS Aviation Training Academy for facilitating this invaluable training. 🙏 To my coursemates, who made this journey even more enriching. 🙏 And with a special degree of honor, to my instructor Mr. A. Boje, whose guidance has been nothing short of phenomenal! #SystemsManagement #ATSEP #PredictiveAnalytics #Engineering #ContinuousLearning #ANSP #DataScience

March 8 is International Women’s Day and hence we want to take a moment today to celebrate the remarkable women who are driving progress in aviation and air traffic management. Across our industry, women are leading change, challenging the status quo, and shaping the future of aviation. Over the past year, we’ve been inspired by the women who took the stage at Airspace World 2024, the CANSO Asia Pacific Conference, CANSO Africa Conference, and CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference, sharing their expertise, vision, and leadership. A standout moment was the 'Women in Aviation Breakfast', hosted by ATNS in Cape Verde, where industry leaders came together to champion greater inclusion and equity in aviation. At CANSO, we are committed to building a more diverse and inclusive industry through initiatives like our newly created Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) working group and Tomorrow’s Voices, which empower and engage the next generation of aviation professionals. Here is a collection of photos celebrating some of the inspiring women who took the stage at our events - leading discussions, sharing insights, and shaping the future of our industry. We look forward to seeing even more women leaders take the stage this year, continuing to drive progress, inspire innovation, and shape the skies of tomorrow. Happy International Women's Day! 💐 #IWD2025 #WomenInAviation #AirTrafficManagement #DiversityInAviation #HappyInternationalWomensDay
