DAKTARI educates and inspire the local children to value their environment and stimulate community development

About us

DAKTARI is a non profit company located near Kruger National Park, South Africa. DAKTARI's mission is to educate and inspire local underprivileged children to value their environment and stimulate community development. Every Monday we welcome a new group of 8 to 10 local underprivileged children for a week and give them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife and conservation, their heritage. We also supplement their school curriculum in English, maths, environmental job opportunities, life skills and social issues. Our goal is to enable today's local underprivileged children to eventually be able to secure good employment in nature reserves, thereby improving their future quality of life. Our program is supported by volunteers from all over the world who come to teach the children about the environment and care for the animals in our wildlife orphanage. • A Sincere Thank You to Our South African Corporate Partners! Securing funds to cover the running costs of an NGO project is always challenging, no matter how worthy the cause may be. NGOs often focus all their efforts on raising financial donations to purchase what is necessary to keep their projects going. Donating money is not always easy, requiring cutting into your income. However, there’s another way to help—by reducing the running costs of an NGO. This is where our incredible South African suppliers and manufacturers can step in and make a huge difference at a lower cost to them. At DAKTARI, we welcome many children and volunteers; one of our recurring expenses is toilet paper. While it may seem like a basic need, it represents a significant portion of our annual budget. You might recall how much people stocked up on it at the start of the pandemic! We reached out to Twinsaver Group, and they generously responded by providing a year’s supply of toilet paper for DAKTARI. Their generosity was so abundant that we were able to share some of the donations with other local NGOs in need, such as Kruger2canyon, @Nourish, The Holy Family, crèches from The Oaks, and Norwich for disabled children in Acornhoek. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Twinsaver Group for their incredible support and to assure them that their donation was distributed to organizations that truly need it in our area. If you are a manufacturer of products or services that we may need, we invite you to lend a helping hand. In return, we will proudly acknowledge your involvement and provide a tax certificate. Thank you so much to all our valued South African corporates for your continued generosity and support! • The past month of June we´ve welcomed students from a different background and location than we usually do. The children come from Lydenburg, from the Soli Deo Gloria Care Center. 8 children were sponsored to come to spend the week at DAKTARI learning about environmental education and the local wildlife. These children do not have a typical familiar background, due to several different reasons. Soli Deo Gloria Care Centre for the traumatic wounded is a non-profit, interdenominational, opportunity Christian organization. To provide, educate and develop the homeless / disadvantaged & current residents at Soli Deo Gloria Care Centre. Following the weekly schedule, the volunteers taught the lessons and enjoyed play time with the students. However, this week was somehow special. The children shared with us several times how much they appreciated spending one week in the bush, surrounded by nature. The impact of spending one week at DAKTARI could be rapidly seen by our staff and their relatives. At DAKTARI we aim to impact as many people as possible. Our programs offer an immersive experience for the students to experience and learn about the bush and the careers it can offer. We work to inspire the next generation into becoming environmental ambassadors for their communities, so they can spread awareness about climate change, littering, and wildlife protection, while acting as role models and saving the planet.

  • 🍃DAKTARI’s ECO CLUB 🌍 While at DAKTARI, many children developed a passion for environmental conservation. Driven by this passion, they created independent Eco Clubs at their schools as a way of sharing their newly found environmental knowledge with classmates. 💪🏾 The Eco Club is our main community program. It runs in 6 weeks cycles with a group of 30 students. Twice a week, we welcome our students after school hours to deepen their understanding about the environment. All Grade 9 students are welcome to attend the Eco Club and have to commit for the full teaching cycle.📚 The students learn about what constitutes healthy ecosystems, wildlife crime, waste management and how they can be actors in making South Africa a better place. 🇿🇦🌳🦒 At the end of the 6 weeks, they get a chance to present some of their work to their parents during a ceremony. This is a great chance for them to raise awareness about the environmental issues that their country is currently facing.🤩👏🏼 #ecoclub #southafrica #savingenvironment #education #village #students #southafricanyouth #wildlife #makingSAabetterplace #sustainability #environment
