A first step towards collaboration with DHET and Food & Bev SETA Last Friday, a delegation of senior representatives from DHET and Food & Bev SETA visited the Lycée Agricole Olivier de Serres in Aubenas. Thanks to the remarkable commitment of its Director, Matthieu Prevost, and his colleagues, Jérémie Annicette-Mondelis and Jean-Marc Giacopelli, the delegation not only received a warm welcome, but was also able to discover the concrete application of the French vision of a continuum between education, research and innovation. The presence of José GUZMAN, from the Chamber of agriculture of Ardèche, and the president of the Cap Pradel research and development consortium perfectly illustrated the local roots of the establishment. The presentation given by Claire Lamine, lecturer researcher at INRAE and and Pascal Mao, Director of CERMOSEM - Grenoble Alpes University, showed how vocational training can be linked to the university. The visit was an excellent opportunity to get to know each other better and identify ideas for future cooperation. Study in English, do it in France! Campus France will organize a STEM Webinar Week, scheduled from the 9th to the 13th of September. During this week, they will feature presentations from leading French universities, showcasing their programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This will provide students with information on suitable programmes they can apply for during their scholarship applications. Delighted to have been given the opportunity to present our pre-feasibility work in the development of an integrated bioremediation process for mine tailings and drainage at the 25th International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium!  This work was done as part of the #TReMA project made possible by the F'SAGRI (French South African Agricultural Institute) and the Department of Science and Innovation and Agricultural Research Council.

The end for Mathieu and Romeo Romeo and Mathieu, 2 students from UPEC, have just finished their internship at the University of Limpopo. Their internship, on the treatment of mine water, was a continuation of the TReMA project on the treatment of mine water for agriculture, the final meeting of which was held in May. From this experience, they learned different ways of working, and became familiar with new challenges related to water quality. They also took the opportunity to discover certain parts of South Africa. We wish them all the best for the future. Come out and play! We all know that we can't play with the future of our planet, but that doesn't mean we can't play for it. On Tuesday 25 June, a delegation made up of representatives from FAO, Business France, UNIDO, SACANI, the City of Johannesburg and F'SAGRI visited the Ethical Sustainable Development Initiative (ESDI) at Northern Farms in Gauteng.  It was the first time that these representatives had met. The ice was quickly broken with Agro Challenges, the agro-ecology game designed by the French Ministry of Agriculture. Hosted by the deputy director of F'SAGRI, the game provided an opportunity to discuss the day-to-day challenges facing farmers, such as animal health, erosion or agricultural price volatility, and to raise awareness of agroecology as a response to these challenges. The game was unanimously appreciated as an innovative tool for tackling serious issues. We hope to be able to repeat this experience with other audiences.

Imagining a future after mining This is the aim of the workshop held at the University of Limpopo. This workshop brings to a close the TReMA project on the treatment of mine water for agriculture, funded by F'SAGRI and BRGM (French Geological Survey), and led by the University of Limpopo, UPEC (Université Paris Est Créteil) and BRGM. The workshop is also an opportunity to discuss the way forward and future broader projects on mine rehabilitation in the Southern African region using a holistic approach. This is why this workshop involves strategic players: universities (University of Limpopo, UNISA, University of Cape Town and UPEC), MinTek (South Africa's national mining research organisation), AFD (Agence Française de Développement), the French Embassy, the DBSA.
