Raising a great nation of good men and fathers who use their strength to love, honour, protect and stand against abuse.
About us
FAN is a Non-Profit Company operating since 2010 that addresses gender-based violence, crime and fatherlessness by restoring and equipping men to be nation-builders, good fathers and role models. We teach men to use their strength to love, serve, honour, protect and and stand against any form of abuse. Our mission is to raise the next generation of men to build a safe and prosperous South Africa. Close to 60% of South African children are growing up without a present and engaged father. Research shows that fatherlessness is the single biggest driver of violent crime globally. By failing to father our children South Africa has been growing an army of dangerous men. We have the highest rate of rape and gender-based violence (GBV) in the world. Our murder rate is almost 8 times higher than the USA and 37 times higher than the UK! Men who have had an absent or abusive father grow up wounded. And if they’ve had no male mentors or role models to teach them good, positive masculinity they often have a distorted concept of what it means to be a man. Wounded men with false notions of what it means to be a man are the primary cause of masculine abuse in all its forms. This is not something that will self-correct. Wounded men raise wounded boys who become wounded men who wound. We need to break the cycle. Unless we deal decisively with this our future is in very real danger. Father A Nation (FAN) has been working with men and boys since 2010. We have impacted over 100,000 men and their families across the nation and the goal is to reach 1 million men. With your support we CAN turn the tide against gender-based violence, crime, corruption, fatherlessness and social disintegration and build a nation that is safe, secure and prosperous for all. Snaps from one of our #16DaysofActivism events at the Sekwanele Shelter, introducing their Men’s Programme and an action plan to combat GBVF and domestic violence. Men from all walks of life including members of the City of Johannesburg Council, faith-based organisations, social development and peace-building organisations, as well as members of Sekwanele shelter gathered to discuss the role of men in society and how men can heal, rediscover and live out the gift of positive masculinity in communities. FAN Project co-ordinator Zizipho Mtwesi spearheaded the conversation, which was very well received and sparked hunger for more amongst the men. The day ended in a declaration and participants signing a charter as a commitment to intentionally promote and bring positive masculinity into their communities and stand against any form of abuse. Together we are building a safer, beautiful future! 🇿🇦 #positivemasculinity #genderbasedviolence #EndGBV #socialresponsibility #championsforchange #mensmentalhealth #fatheranation #raisinggoodmen #raisingagreatnation

FAN mentor Themba Ntuli with soccer legends Bernard Parker and Happy Jele at the Champions for Change press workshop held in KZN this week! Members of the press were taken through the anti-GBV #ChampionsforChange course by Themba and handed their certificates by a beaming Happy and Bernard, ambassadors for the cause. The vibrant event was not only a strong end to 16 Days of Activism, but a prelude to a broader programme to be run with the PSL players in collaboration with #NoExcuse, Father A Nation (NGO) and Cloud Therapist. The programme will focus on becoming a champion on and off the field, highlighting the importance of mental health as a man and a player, using the privilege of fame and influence to be an excellent role model, and becoming a 365-day activist against GBV. We are honoured to be working with such excellent brands and organisations to impact men in every corner of South Africa, spreading the power of positive masculinity! "Men suffering from issues with depression, anger, anxiety, a sense of uselessness, low self-esteem generally tend to behave differently to women, in the sense that they become destructive - to themselves or others." - Craig Wilkinson #mensmentalhealth #genderbasedviolence #16DaysofActivism Read the full article below:
