According to the World Bank, Mozambique is one of the globe’s countries most vulnerable to climate change. The often lush and tranquil surroundings, brimming with green and the laughter of schoolchildren nearby, belie the fact that this area is often hit by extreme weather events such as cyclones and tropical storms which decimate crops, homes and other infrastructure. According to our partner, the World Food Programme (WFP), diet quality is a critical link between food security and nutrition. Poor diet quality can lead to different forms of undernutrition, including micronutrient deficiencies, but also to overweight and obesity. Our food programmes prioritise nutritional training, teaching farmers, communities and school children the importance of diversity in diets.
