Staying Independent Together
About us
The Independent Community Pharmacy Association (ICPA) was formed in May 2011 following the amalgamation of the United South African Pharmacies (USAP), the SA Progressive Pharmacy Association (SAPPA) and owners of independent community pharmacy not aligned with either of these associations, to provide independent community pharmacy with collective strength and a coherent voice that is heard by government, medical schemes, pharmaceutical suppliers and importantly, the consumer. ICPA represents the largest pool of professionals in the healthcare sector with over 1 200 pharmacies, about 3 500 pharmacists and 20 000 supportive healthcare personnel spread across metropolitan, urban and rural South Africa. The objective of ICPA is single-mindedly to assist members in securing a vibrant and sustainable future as independent, owner-managed pharmacies. With this, gaining or retaining the understanding and recognition by stakeholders and industry players of the role that independents can (and do) play in delivering important healthcare services to the communities that they serve, is imperative

It has been an amazing and engaging 4 days+ with colleagues from many parts of the 🌍 - over 90 countries - at the 2024 International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) event (the 82nd World Congress of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences) in Cape Town, South Africa – even the weather agrees! 😊 🌤 The theme, "Think Health, Think Pharmacy", was captured from the opening ceremony all the way to the closing – in the symposia, plenaries, rapid fire sessions, regional meetings, etc. Time has flown so fast with great learning and knowledge exchange opportunities on how #pharmacists continuously strive to meet #GlobalHealth needs across several sectors. Thrilled to run into many old faces, too many to mention: former students, classmates, colleagues, supervisors, and newer faces including so many I had only met on the pages of emails and reference lists prior to the congress. Your contributions, conversations, engagements, discussions, check-ins and check-outs are all appreciated.🤗 Special thanks to the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa, the South African Pharmacy Council, HWSETA, and the Independent Community Pharmacy Association for this wonderful opportunity. #FIP2024 #Health #InnovateForHealth #UHC #HealthForAll #GlobalHealth

This September, we join the National Department of Health, South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA), and Independent Community Pharmacy Association (ICPA) in celebrating Pharmacy Month with the theme, "Let’s Talk About Vaccines." This month highlights the essential role of pharmacists and their impact on vaccination efforts. Throughout September, we will spotlight the contributions of pharmacists across various Aurum sites and projects. Last week, we featured Rustenburg, and this week, our focus shifts to the Clinical Research Support Centre in Klerksdorp. Meet the dynamic Klerksdorp team: Shaina Gossayn, a Pharmacy Admin Clerk, brings a fresh perspective and enthusiasm from her academic background. ELBA JANSE VAN RENSBURG, Pharmacy Manager since 2011, offers a wealth of experience and leadership. Lezaan-marié Smit, a pharmacist with five years at Aurum, plays a key role in advancing research in Klerksdorp. Margie Constantinidis, with nearly 50 years of experience, remains a dedicated leader, alongside Amanda Van Aswegen, a highly valued pharmacist. Join us in celebrating pharmacists and their crucial role in healthcare. For more on Aurum’s research, visit: https://lnkd.in/d7QhvDYU #PharmacyMonth #AurumPharmacists #LetsTalkAboutVaccines

#PharmacyMonth2024 The theme for this year’s campaign is: “Let’s Talk About Vaccines”. The theme is based on the conviction that improving vaccination coverage and promoting a life-course approach to vaccination are global imperatives to which pharmacists can greatly contribute and it is aligned with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress theme of “Innovating for the Future of Health Care”, which will be taking place in Cape Town from 01–04 September 2024. #AskYourClinic or #AskYourPharmacist for a personalised vaccination schedule for you and your family.
