So many nonprofits rely on the services of volunteers -- including board members. But managing those relationships can be tricky. WildApricot shares "The Ultimate Guide to Volunteer Appreciation": "To ensure that they’re appreciated for all that they do, it’s essential to have a comprehensive strategy not just for managing volunteers, but for recognizing their impact as well."

"“Our nation is in crisis,” Dr Armand Bam, Head of Social Impact at Stellenbosch Business School says. “The economic challenges we face are a direct result of historical injustices, and they demand a response that goes beyond superficial remedies. It is unnatural for those ‘who have’ to believe that their lives are not intertwined with those ‘who have not’. True change can only emerge from the most desperate of circumstances.” Read more on "How Philanthropy Can Heal South Africa’s Deep Wounds"

#InternationalDayofCharity is celebrated worldwide on 5 September every year, to encourage individuals, companies and organisations to support those in need. However, the impact of your generosity is profoundly influenced by the organisation you choose to support. Inyathelo, a leading advocate for non-profit sustainability, highlights the importance of selecting a well-governed, reputable non-profit organisation (NPO) to ensure that your contribution is used effectively. South African organisations prefer to use the term “philanthropy” rather than “charity”, says Inyathelo acting executive director Feryal Domingo. This emphasises strategic, long-term investment in development and social change, rather than simply addressing immediate needs through one-off acts of giving. Domingo offers several tips for choosing a reputable NPO before making your contribution. Viewing an organisation’s website, which should include a link to its latest annual report, is a good starting point: https://lnkd.in/dYXS5ez7

⚠️ Big EFT Payment Changes Coming in Southern Africa! ⚠️ Starting 9 September 2024, South African banks will stop processing EFT payments and debit orders within the Common Monetary Area (CMA), impacting transactions with Namibia, Lesotho, and Eswatini. This move is part of efforts to combat money laundering and align with international standards. Payments will now be treated as cross-border transactions via the SWIFT system, leading to stricter controls and longer processing times. Read more:

AI is being used in exciting ways to bridge educational divides, and AI-powered nonprofits are creating a roadmap for what the future of education may hold. "AI can tailor lesson content and pace to the needs of individual students, addressing their specific strengths and areas for improvement. AI can even help identify developmental delays, different learning styles, or learning disabilities, allowing for timely intervention and support. Identifying developmental delays and educational struggles is especially vital in low-income communities, where needs may be more likely to go undiagnosed and be unsupported.
