About us
Mukuru is one of the largest money transfer providers in Africa and a leading Next Gen Financial Services Platform that offers affordable and reliable financial services to the emerging consumer. The foundation of our business was built by providing the continent’s migrant diaspora with safe, convenient international money transfers. From this base we have grown a wide range of products and services that take their cue from our customers’ needs and aspirations for greater financial security and a better life. To this end, we continue to build a highly robust and resilient physical and digital financial payments infrastructure across Africa that unlocks new value-added services for our loyal customers. This includes cash transfers, Mukuru Funeral Cover, and the Mukuru Card. As a fintech provider, Mukuru has underpinned its successful customer engagement strategy with the ability to ‘speak the language’ of its users and gain a grassroots understanding of the unique pain points that customers face in each market. Our engagement platforms include WhatsApp, free USSD, the Mukuru App, and the website. Customers are always able to speak to Mukuru about any challenges or difficulties with the platform, whether it’s a Mukuru agent in a physical booth, at a branch, over the telephone, or via a virtual live chat function in a language of the customer’s choosing, and often in their mother tongue. Take a walk through our Contact Centre at any time, and you’ll hear conversations in 15 languages – our very own united nations of Africa and Asia.

Mukuru Wallet launches in Zimbabwe. Mukuru has launched a mobile wallet in Zimbabwe, the first development since we were recently awarded a Deposit-Taking Microfinance Institution (DTMFI) licence by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. This digital store of value signifies our commitment to driving financial inclusion and walking the journey to digitisation with our loyal customers. The Mukuru Wallet is a natural evolution in our 20-year history in the country and builds on our trusted capabilities symbolised by 250 Mukuru owned and over 500 partner access points across Zimbabwe which support more than three-million customers. The wallet has several benefits which allow customers to send, store and spend: two pockets that allow users to send and receive money locally and internationally from mobile phones, safe storage of funds as well as a free cashout on international transfers. Furthermore, it provides convenience and cost savings, such as paying for electricity, buying airtime, settling DSTV bills and paying for insurance. While currently focused on private end users, soon organisations and businesses who already partner with Mukuru, will be able to make use of our local capabilities and global footprint to facilitate payments, such as distributing money to farmers, supporting payroll for small businesses and securing traceable aid distributions through the wallet. This milestone is an incredible achievement and forms part of a fundamental transition that has happened across our infrastructure and offerings in key territories. With the launch in Zimbabwe, Mukuru now has 5 wallets or digital stores of value in 5 territories including South Africa, Botswana, Malawi and Zambia. #MukuruWallet #SENDSTORESPEND #Zvakuendeka #FinancialInclusion #Fintech #Payments #DigitalWallets #FintechNews

Mukuru is proud to partner with Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA, Tearfund, Oxfam, and Trócaire to deliver essential food aid to nearly 115,000 vulnerable individuals in Zimbabwe, as part of a coordinated response to the severe drought impacting Southern Africa. During the first project cycle, approximately 1,400 tons of food were distributed through Mukuru’s Enterprise Payments Platform (EPP) providing critical support through food vouchering and provisioning. A total of 4,200 tons is planned across this impactful initiative, with the start of the second distribution phase starting today. Today, Mukuru proudly commemorates International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)— a special day to reflect, learn, and act toward building a world that is truly inclusive. This year’s theme, "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," resonates deeply with our mission to foster empowerment and inclusion at every level. At Mukuru, inclusion is not just a value—it’s a commitment. Our people are the heart of our business, and we are dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. Our Head of Learning Enablement and DEIB, Nashlene Velayuthan, shares: "Disability is not a limitation—it is DiverseABILITY, a source of unique strength, talent, and perspective. Yet, not all disabilities are visible, and barriers—whether physical, systemic, or attitudinal—can hinder people from reaching their full potential. True inclusion begins when we break down these barriers and recognise the extraordinary abilities within every individual." Building on this, our Chief People Officer, Savina Harrilall, highlighted in her article "People Are Not a Pillar" the importance of recognising each individual’s unique strengths and fostering an inclusive environment where employees can thrive. By investing in people and embracing diversity, Mukuru creates a culture that not only supports its employees’ growth but also strengthens customer relationships, ultimately driving business success. Read more here, https://bit.ly/4g7zDmi. As we reflect on IDPD, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing leadership among persons with disabilities, breaking down barriers, and creating a culture where every individual can thrive. Leadership is at its most powerful when it comes from diverse voices, and by fostering such spaces, we build not just a workplace but a community rooted in empathy, belonging, and growth. Join a company that puts its people at the heart of everything we do.
