As reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), KwaZulu-Natal has experienced 165 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (#FMD). Eighteen of these have been closed, with 147 still active. An enlarged Disease Management Area (DMA) was declared on 17 March 2025, where signs of continued virus activity persist. Livestock owners are urged to maintain strict biosecurity and adhere to movement protocols to curb disease spread. South Africa🇿🇦 & Thailand🇹🇭: Expanding Agricultural Trade. Thailand remains one of South Africa’s key strategic partners in Asia for fresh produce and livestock exports. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, signed in 2018, continues to strengthen this valuable partnership, unlocking new market opportunities: ✅ SA currently exports citrus, table grapes, and apples to Thailand. ✅ In 2021, Thailand approved the export of live sheep and goats from select SA farms during the JAWG meeting. ✅ SA is negotiating market access for beef and pork exports to Thailand. ✅ Additional market access requests include ostrich meat and Wet Blue Hides/skins. ✅ SA aims to expand fruit exports to include pears, stone fruits, avocados, mangoes, persimmons, pomegranates, and figs. #SAThailandPartnership #AgriculturalTrade #GovZAUpdates
