Strengthening resilience of vulnerable children, youth and communities through the Power of Relationship and Play.
About us
Our vision is for a world where ALL children can experience the simple joy of being children and have the necessary relationships and resilience to thrive. Since 2009 we have been creating enriched experiences to inspire and motivate children and to add to their toolboxes for life. We especially focus on building positive role models around children. Whether other young people in the community, parents in the home or care workers in community, health and education facilities. We build an understanding of the impact of trauma and stress, and add to their own toolboxes so they can find relief and joy and learn ways to help them to bring their best selves for their children. We role model and educate on best practice and proven methods to support social and emotional development of children. We Play. Because of the Fun on top and deep impact this has for everyone participating. The Power of Play is proven for building relationships, building resilience, building learning potential and processing trauma. Children have it naturally, adults have to be reminded how!

We believe that mental health for our children is of the utmost importance not just today on Mental Health Awareness Day but every day. At Sisanda FunDaytion, we are dedicated to building resilience in young minds, helping them navigate life's challenges with confidence and strength. We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with Eagle Lighting (Pty) Ltd, who will be supporting our initiatives at Sisanda FunDaytion. Their recognition of our work and commitment to community transformation means a great deal to us. We are thrilled that Eagle Lighting (Pty) Ltd recognises that investing in building resilience in children in surrounding Cape communities not only fosters positive change but also enhances their own business success. This forward-thinking mindset aligns perfectly with our values. We also look forward to collaborating on our Play@Home Programme and community Fun Days in 2025, as well as having discussions around mental health, which are important to both our organisations. Reading stories helps children learn about different people, cultures, and ways of life. Through the characters, they can face challenges and encounter various problems, fostering empathy and enhancing their problem-solving skills. Not ready to put Book Week behind us? Let's make every week literacy week, let's teach our kids the love of reading, telling and hearing stories. Leading up to National Heritage Day, you can tell your kids about their family history, stories of when they were young and a bit about their cultural heritage to give them a sense of place and build family connection too. #playsmart #connectthroughstories #connection #play #storytelling #stories #resiliencetools #resiliencetoolbox #resiliencehub Leesa Flory-Bright Nicky Seymour Melanie Lippert #empathy #internationalliteracyweek #nationalheritageday #culture

Sisanda Play Ambassadors are reliable, trusted positive role models who understand and practice PlaySMART principles to grow connection and resilience in children. Mariza, is one of our long-standing dynamic community Youth Play Ambassadors. She expertly and confidently presented a tiny snapshot of our Resilience Zones from our Play Ambassador training workshop to HCI Foundation visitors to our office recently. ”It’s knowing that we all react and respond to difficult situations differently. How we react and respond affects those around us too. When we are more self-aware and can regulate ourselves, we can help others too.” Tomorrow at our Fun Day we will introduce 13 new new Youth Play Ambassadors, starting their journey of inspiring and encouraging volunteers and 40 youths from KTC Nyanga to be PlaySMART and resilient. We will do Zumba with the lovely instructors from Zumba Claremont to raise heart rates, work our bodies and release some endorphins into our systems. Then we'll do some mindful journalling and explore what makes us react and respond to situations around us. Friends and volunteers joining us for the day include the International School of Cape Town, Wynberg Girls' High School Interact Club and Reddam House Schools SA. And thanks as always goes to our Golden Arrow Bus Services partners for transporting our youths to the venue. If you're interested in volunteering at or sponsoring upcoming training and enriched play experiences for children from impoverished backgrounds, then get more info at https://lnkd.in/dZQj_8wu. 🌍📚 Happy International Literacy Day from Sisanda FunDaytion! 📚🌍 Today, we celebrate how play is key to developing literacy and essential life skills. At Sisanda, our play-based approach helps children build vocabulary, resilience, and strong social connections. Through interactive games and creative activities, kids enhance their communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence—skills crucial for literacy and lifelong learning. 🔹 Play and Literacy: Through interactive games and creative activities, children build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop narrative skills. 🔹 Building Resilience: Play provides a safe space for children to experiment, make mistakes, and try again. This process fosters resilience and problem-solving skills, essential components of effective literacy. 🔹 Strengthening Connections: Social interactions are key for developing communication skills and emotional intelligence, which are fundamental for literacy and overall learning. Join us in recognising the power of play in education. Shared laughter and play are more than just fun. In the midst of everyday chaos, these moments of joy offer a refreshing break and a chance to reconnect on a deeper level. Whether it's a spontaneous game of hide and seek, a creative arts and crafts session, or just a silly dance party in the living room, playful interactions help formalise and deepen the emotional connection between mother and child which is why we focus so much on these relationships in our Play@Home programme. Mother's help to build trust, foster communication, and create a safe space for both to express themselves freely. So as we wrap up Women's Month, let's celebrate the beautiful reminder that motherhood (and grandmother- and sisterhood) is not only about nurturing and guiding but also about sharing joy and creating lasting memories together. To all the amazing moms out there: thank you for your love, laughter, and the countless ways you make life a little brighter every day. Here’s to the continued magic of play and the special bond it fosters. 💖✨ #WomensMonth #Motherhood #PlayfulParenting #BondingThroughPlay #SelfCare #CelebrateMoms #SisandaFunDaytion #ConnectThroughPlay
