Raymond Matlala emphasises that the 2024 BRICS Summit stands out for many remarkable achievements, but the endorsement of the establishment of the Civil BRICS Council is, without a doubt, one of the most historic milestones. “After a decade of persistent advocacy, it is deeply gratifying to witness this vision finally come to life. The Civil BRICS Council will provide a much-needed governance structure to ensure continuity, implementation, and monitoring of civil society recommendations, enhancing the role of BRICS citizens in shaping the group’s future.” Having been part of the team instrumental in driving this initiative, Raymond Matlala is proud to see how it will strengthen the People-to-People Exchange pillar of BRICS, enabling a more structured and impactful engagement between civil society and BRICS leaders. “This step reflects BRICS’ commitment to inclusive development and a more participatory global governance model. The establishment of the Civil BRICS Council represents a significant step forward in fostering long-term collaboration among the BRICS nations, ensuring that the voices of civil society are heard and integrated into the broader decision-making processes. Another significant outcome is the continued commitment to enhancing financial cooperation among the BRICS nations, particularly through the increased use of local currencies in trade. This move not only strengthens economic sovereignty but also reduces dependence on traditional Western financial systems, fostering a more multipolar global economy.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/db2fQxaw #OPINION #BRICSExpertCouncilRussia #BRICSExpertCouncil #Summit #KazanDeclaration

Addressing the issue of male dominance in certain fields, Matlala called for raising awareness and challenging outdated perceptions. 💬 “It’s just about awareness and also to say to the women, ‘you are capable and you can do it,’ because this is a historic thing to say women can't get into agriculture or construction or engineering,” he noted. Matlala further emphasized the importance of teaching future generations about African traditions, underscoring that cultural preservation is key to maintaining a society’s
