  • The strategic partnerships forged by Summit Social Infrastructure Fund with education and healthcare service providers play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality services to local communities. At the inaugural Summit Social Infrastructure Fund Investor Day and AGM, co-heads Thurstan Moodley, CFA and Vongani Mbhokota presented the fund’s achievements and outlined the exciting future of its purpose-built education and healthcare infrastructure portfolio. Today’s event provided delegates with invaluable insights into the Fund’s work and highlighted the transformative power of purpose-built infrastructure. Attendees toured the SPARK School Campus in Midrand, followed by a visit to the Eduvos Campus, also in Midrand. Eduvos CEO Siegie Brownlee offered a thoughtful overview of the challenges facing higher education in South Africa, particularly around student funding. A heartfelt thank you to all Limited Partners, service providers, and the Summit Africa team for making this event a success. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025! #SummitAfrica #InvestorDay #AGM2024 #PartnershipForImpact #SocialInfrastructure #EducationInvestment #SustainableGrowth #ImpactInvesting

  • Founded in 1979, Eduvos operates 12 campuses across South Africa and takes pride in shaping the potential of students, one by one, to contribute to Africa’s prosperity. During her presentation at the Summit Africa Social Infrastructure Fund Investor Day and AGM, CEO Siegie Brownlee highlighted the critical role of partnerships between education providers and social infrastructure owners. Siegie emphasised that successful partnerships must align with Eduvos' core values and ethos. She expressed deep appreciation for the partnership with Summit Social Infrastructure Fund which plays a pivotal role in enhancing access to quality, affordable higher education in South Africa. Through this collaboration, Eduvos aims to expand its portfolio and further its mission. On the state of higher education in South Africa, Siegie pointed out that student funding remains a significant barrier in the sector. Estimates indicate that about half of matriculants cannot afford tertiary education without substantial financial support, underscoring the need for funding in areas like technology and accessibility. Siegie believes universities can help by rethinking business models to lower cost structures and tuition fees, as well as increasing access to technology on campuses. Another barrier is the inadequate preparation for tertiary education, particularly in terms of career and study choices. She stressed the importance of career counselling, higher certificate programs, and pre-degree foundation courses to better equip students for success in higher education and beyond.
